Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer Level III / CNC Programmer will play a pivotal role in optimizing manufacturing processes and programming CNC machines to ensure efficient production operations. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product quality, reduce costs, and enhance overall manufacturing efficiency.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

CNC Programming:

  • Develop CNC programs for machining operations based on engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Optimize tool paths and machining parameters to maximize efficiency while maintaining product quality.
  • Troubleshoot and debug CNC programs to resolve machining issues and optimize cycle times.

Process Optimization:

  • Analyze existing manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements to increase productivity and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with design and production teams to optimize part designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
  • NPI (New Product Introduction).

Tooling and Fixture Design:

  • Design and develop tooling, fixtures, and jigs to support CNC machining operations and ensure accurate and repeatable part production.
  • Evaluate tooling options and recommend appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and fixtures to optimize machining processes and minimize production costs.

Quality Assurance:

  • Develop and implement quality control processes and procedures to ensure compliance with product specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality audits to identify deviations from quality standards and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to address non-conformances and implement preventive measures to minimize defects and rework.

Documentation and Training:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including CNC programs, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide training and support to production operators and technicians to ensure proper setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC equipment and machining processes.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering and CNC programming roles, preferably in a precision machining environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, GibbsCAM) and G-code programming.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles, tooling selection, and machining best practices.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with internal teams and external vendors.
