A vacancy for a Materials Laboratory Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space to work in the Materials Testing Laboratory in Stevenage. This role reports to the Materials Laboratory Team Leader.

We are looking for someone to run Batch Acceptance and re-life testing (testing of raw materials) in the laboratory. But with the versatility to work across multiple disciplines in the laboratory such as mechanical, microscopy and Chemistry.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM 

  • Hands-on testing of materials and components used in the manufacture of space products.
  • Testing of in-process control samples
  • Using and maintaining a wide range of test equipment, predominantly mechanical test machines and metallography equipment.
  • Carrying out investigations for R&D and special projects.
  • Supporting the continuous maintenance and review of Materials Laboratory Procedures and laboratory working processes.
  • Participating and leading laboratory technical audits, safety reviews and team meetings.
  • Ensuring the health and safety of yourself and others; including following and carrying out risk assessments.

ABOUT YOU – Your Skills

  • Experience working within a commercial/industrial laboratory environment
  • Experience working in a cleanliness controlled environment would be desirable
  • Experience writing technical reports
  • Experience in ISO 9000, ISO17025 and auditing is desired
  • Experience in the following areas is desired:

- Mechanical Testing (tensile, compression, cryogenic and elevated temperature)

- Metallography and use of microscopes (including SEM)

- Use of FTIR

- Chemistry (Titrations, GCMS & ICP)

- Thermal Analysis (DSC & DMA)
