The selected candidate will work as a Staff Metallurgist on the core Materials and Processes Engineering (M&PE) team for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

What You Will Be Doing
In this role, the Staff Metallurgist will perform tasks such as:
- Applying advanced technical principles, techniques, theories, and concepts in the area of metallic materials and processes, including solving complex technical problems and providing innovative solutions relating to aircraft design, production, and sustainment
- Creating, revising, and reviewing engineering specifications, such as material and process specifications, as well as other documents for adherence to program requirements
- Advising on engineering structural lay-outs and design/blueprint development and reviews
- Advising on selection of metallic materials and processes for parts and products
- Interfacing with the supplier base on technical issues with metallic raw materials, new materials and processes, manufacturing plans, and parts fabrication
- Providing metallic support to suppliers and co-producers worldwide for preparation and qualification as well as determination of releaseability of technical documents and specifications
- Providing metallic materials and processes subject matter expertise for production operations to support resolution of technical issues, including non-conformance disposition and corrective action processes

You are a multi-faceted teammate able to communicate and function effectively on an engineering team to create a collaborative and inclusive environment that allows for the establishment of mission goals. You have experience with itemized planning and prioritization of tasks that drives the efficient execution of objectives. The successful candidate will have experience with selection, processing, and manufacturing of parts using a wide array of metallurgies including e.g. aluminum, titanium, steel, and nickel alloys, as well as associated welding and joining processes, non-destructive inspection methods, and other metal parts fabrication and assembly procedures. The selected candidate will be an emerging authority in the discipline. This position is initially planned to support the F-35 Program, however, M&PE supports all Aeronautics programs and other efforts may be supported by this position based on evolving business needs and individual interests. ***Must be a US Citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access. Must have the ability to obtain a clearance.***

Basic Qualifications:
Engineering or other technical bachelors, masters or PhD degree.

At least 9 years of experience working with metallic materials, processes, fabrication/manufacturing methods, test, and/or inspection processes, or at least 7 years of experience with a technical graduate degree.
Desired Skills:
Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Metallurgy highly preferred.

Experience with aluminum, titanium, steel, and nickel and various other alloys used in aerospace. For this position, a person with deep experience in titanium alloys is especially preferred.

Familiar with raw material processing, including ingot and intermediate form processes, as well as rolling, forging, casting, extrusion, forming, heat treatment, and other methods.

Familiar with assembly processing including welding, joining, machining, non-destructive inspection, and related metal processing.

Experience with developing, executing, and evaluation of metallic qualification programs for detail parts, assemblies, facilities, and allowables.

Experience reading and interpreting drawings and/or schematics.

Experience with non-conformance disposition and corrective action processes.

Ability to interface effectively with other disciplines such as quality, manufacturing, and procurement, to advise on and resolve production issues.

Experience creating and revising material and process specifications, reports, and test plans.

Experience with material characterization techniques and process development.

Experience preparing and delivering technical presentations.

Strong verbal and written communication/interpersonal skills.

Project management skills.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
