The Advanced Materials Organization with Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) is seeking a Mid-Level or Senior Metal Material Development Engineer (level 3 or 4) to join our Metals and Finishes in Everett, WA.

The Metals and Finishes team within BCA Product Development (PD) is responsible for the development of new metallic alloys and fabrication techniques as well as surface preparation processes. This position will focus on the technology maturation of advanced metallic alloys across a range of material types (aluminum, titanium, and steel) and airplane applications. You will interface with other engineering functions, business operations, and outside suppliers to evaluate and mature new technologies.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions for new metallic materials and fabrication techniques.  
  • Evaluates customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Resolves cross-functional technical issues.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.
  • 3+ year of experience with materials development in aerospace or other highly regulated industry.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5 + years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of metallurgical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Boeing material and process specifications.
  • Experience with technology readiness assessments.
  • Experience collaborating with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Experience with airplane design requirements and certification processes.
  • Experience with the evaluation and qualification of materials, suppliers, equipment, technology and processes.

Typical Education & Experience:

Mid-Level (Level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range for Mid-Level (level 3): $104,550 - $141,450.

Summary pay range for Senior (level 4): $128,350 - $173,650.
