Akima is seeking a Network Engineer IV serves as a senior technical resource responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, security, and operational support of enterprise-wide network infrastructure. This position provides Tier III support and subject matter expertise for complex LAN/WAN/WLAN, VoIP environments in support of mission-critical federal systems. The Network Engineer III leads troubleshooting efforts, engineers scalable network solutions, ensures compliance with federal security mandates, and contributes to modernization initiatives including cloud integration and software-defined networking (SDN).
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain large-scale enterprise LAN/WAN/WLAN environments.
- Engineer solutions utilizing BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, VPN, SD-WAN, SASE, and Zero Trust architectures.
- Develop and maintain network diagrams, configuration documentation, and operating procedures.
- Provide architecture recommendations for network modernization initiatives.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex network outages.
- Respond to and resolve high-priority incidents impacting mission-critical systems.
- Perform performance analysis, capacity planning, and network optimization.
- Escalate and coordinate with Tier IV/vendor support as required.
- Utilize enterprise monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, SNMP-based platforms) to monitor performance and availability.
- Produce weekly/monthly network statistics and utilization reports.
- Conduct performance threshold analysis and recommend infrastructure upgrades.
- Prepare and maintain:
- Network diagrams.
- SOPs.
- Cabling diagrams.
- Configuration baselines.
- Change documentation.
- Ensure all changes follow formal configuration management procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of progressive network engineering experience.
- 3+ years supporting large-scale enterprise network environments.
- Experience providing Tier III or equivalent advanced support.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco or equivalent enterprise networking platforms.
