We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our Galley Modifications & Upgrades team in Leighton Buzzard to be responsible for leading a global team of multi-disciplined engineers to research and develop designs, components, equipment, systems for aircraft interior products and be totally accountable to internal and external stakeholders for In-Service modification design concepts to meeting regulatory requirements.

Officially headquartered in the UK with manufacturing in the Philippines the Galleys Program continues to be the premier solution for all Aircraft and supplying most of the galleys on all models.

Note – This role is based in Leighton Buzzard, UK however travel may be required to support the business or the customer. Currently, our standard workweek allows us the flexibility to work remotely Monday and Friday. However, as leaders who value accountability, our engineers work on-site as required to support their team, the project or the customer.

What You Will Do 

The successful candidate will be a seasoned professional contributor. They may manage projects or processes and should have advanced knowledge of work area. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex. The successful candidate will directly report to the Senior Engineering Manager but day-to-day will operate within a Program Management Team supporting the Program Chief Engineer & Discipline Chief Engineer. Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • You will lead a global team of multi-disciplined engineers to develop aircraft interior products and be totally accountable to internal and external stakeholders for the delivery on your assigned work packages. This role focuses on driving measurable performance using defined KPIs and ensuring consistency across all project phases.
  • Own the Engineering responsibility for various intriguing Galley upgrade projects such as in-service product modification, Trim and Finish (T&F) changes, insert products, cabin reconfigurations, customisation and rebranding for some of the top tier airlines in the world.
    Evaluating, verifying and new design supporting structural modifications to monuments in compliance with certification requirements and Airworthiness Authority regulations.
  • Manage all aspects of Engineering requirements, from receiving in Program Customer specifications to releasing the complete, verified engineered artifacts, where you will have ownership and accountability.
  • Think strategically to identify an optimal program approach, consider prototype and testing requirements of the customer/integrator, and identify Risks and Opportunities for the programs.
  • Conduct Design Review Meetings to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on program design approach, assumptions, etc. Lead individual Design Engineers performing design studies & investigations that also support quotations.
  • Develop customer relationships based on transparency and trust. Become technical interfaces for all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Author, check and approve technical documentation in accordance their delegation of authority.
  • Coach and review and support work from a cross functional team of professionals and build a foundation of design check and approval signatories. Monitor, report and act upon key performance & leading indicators to help achieve predicable outcomes
  • Provide mentor support to develop team for technical acumen and signatory obtainment.
  • Validate sequencing of tasks dependencies, and critical path accuracy

Qualifications We Prefer 

  • The successful candidate will have a “Leader” mentality, keen to drive improvements, take on challenges, create solutions and provide input.
  • Ideally have at least 5 years’ experience in a technical role, Engineering experience is essential.
  • A STEM degree is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in the design of mechanical/electrical systems for commercial aircraft seating products.
  • Structural analysis expert in all classical static analysis
  • Candidates who have current or previously held M1020 Check and Approval signatories are highly desirable.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with FAA/EASA requirements a plus.
  • Able demonstrate they are an excellent communicator with the ability achieve the right outcome through dialogue with a range of stakeholders (local and global colleagues, executives, customers, technical and non-technical).
  • Experience within and an understanding of the aircraft interiors industry (i.e. certification, product development, customer expectations) is highly desirable.  The role requires Structural engineering knowledge.
  • M1020 Check and Approval signatories are desirable.
