The Pratt & Whitney Cold Section Module Center Manufacturing Engineering organization is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the production of major rotating hardware. This position will provide the opportunity to be the process/hardware owner for one of the key business units in the building which manufactures hardware across both cold and hot sections of the engines and both military and commercial programs. Ideal candidate will have significant manufacturing engineering experience, ideally in Aerospace & Defense, as well as the ability and willingness to mentor new engineers.
The Principal Manufacturing Engineers responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Interpretation of technical data such as Engineering Drawings, Quality Assurance specifications, etc., which will flow down into process work instructions.
Execute standard work to create and modify work instructions for new and existing processes including definition of tooling and process parameters.
Identify & implement shop floor process optimization & control methods to eliminate/prevent quality turn backs /escapes and reduce overall product costs.
Review & modify tool designs, track and implement tool changes and corrections.
Provide production support by resolving manufacturing process issues in a timely manner.
Participate in and lead root cause and corrective action investigations
Implement new capital equipment from specification and ordering through delivery, installation, and release to production.
Provide focused & effective leadership in eliminating EH&S/Ergonomics/Human Factors risks and addressing quality issues.
Participate in CORE initiatives.
Significant interaction with the hourly work force, tool designers, quality assurance and engineering partners are typical of the position.
Primary manufacturing processes in the business unit include, but are not limited to, Broaching, Milling, Turning, Non-Destructive Test, as well as influence in Wire EDM, SAM etc.
Primary hardware types in this business unit include, but are not limited to, military and commercial fan hubs, turbine disks, fan rotor details, etc.
Critical tasks will include maintaining existing production processes and developing processes for new parts and programs
Willingness to learn and take initiative as area/process owning Manufacturing Engineer
Ability and willingness to mentor and develop new engineers
10+ years related experience in a manufacturing environment
Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related field.
7+ years related experience working with continuous improvement tools. Process Certification & Management, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, QCPC/Root-Cause Analysis and Set-Up Reduction/Mistake-Proofing is preferred.
Experience in Aerospace & Defense manufacturing is highly desired
