Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Develop and certify new materials and processes; assist engineering during the development phase and actively engages in determination of materials and processes for successful certification campaign and achieving a mature product with knowledge in flammability, metallic, and composite materials. Will issue technical reports such as test proposals and test results. Will carry out tests and/or witness tests in labs. Understanding finishing process application in interiors and external paint.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Ensure materials (metallic and non-metallic) related engineering data is in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads, coordinates and performs complex analysis and evaluation of parts, materials, processes, technology or equipment through research and testing to ensure safety, reliability and adherence to requirements and specifications.
  • Flammability test witnessing and ability to carry out flammability tests when needed.
  • Certifying materials for aircraft interiors and aircraft aftermarket modifications.
  • Reviews design drawings for compliance with materials, parts and processes requirements used in the engineering design, manufacture, maintenance of products and aftermarket modifications.
  • Determine and communicate technical material requirements with design engineering (will be part of multi-functional teams)
  • Designs and implements flammability test plans, reviews and analyzes test results and consolidates into test reports.
  • Supports supplier certification reviews.
  • Test Labs identification / qualification and interface between Embraer and labs for metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Promotes standardization across business activities.
  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate.
  • Implements corrective and preventive actions.
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Develop new materials and / or improved processes within Embraer manufacturing
  • Develop project-related data for new or improved material, processes, assembly and manufacturing techniques and associated data including strength allowable.
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, Lean (P3E) and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education:

  • BS/BA degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical or Materials Engineer degree or a related field or equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • Prior executive or commercial aviation in interiors and aftermarket modifications (Supplemental Type Certificates and Service Bulletins) is preferred.
  • Experience with the evaluation and qualification of materials, suppliers, equipment, technology and processes.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a specialized functional discipline.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • The successful candidates will be energetic; driven; able to work independently and in a team; and able to work/guide completion of projects.
  • Must have knowledge of Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) RBAC, FAA 14 CFR and European Aviation Safety Agency CS requirements for Part 23 and Part 25 airworthiness standards in Interior/Cabin environment.
  • Customer focused with good relationship building skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial and executive aircraft and the commercial and executive aviation market with emphasis on Cabin and Interior.
  • Comprehension and understanding of broad practices associated within the field assigned.
  • Applies these understandings in the completion of moderately complex work assignments.
  • Problem resolution typically centers on less clearly defined issues, requiring more developed interpretation skills and abilities.
  • At this level of Individual Professional Contribution, problems take on a more self-identified aspect and proactive resolution without waiting for further guidance from others.
  • Projects assigned are more moderately complex and may impact functional groups outside of their own group if not handled properly.
  • Errors may cause moderate delays and/or costs to correct.
  • Work assignments are increasingly more independent in nature in terms of how issues are identified and resolved.
  • Review of work assignments is more periodic than regular in nature and interaction on issues to resolve with supervisor is reserved for more uncommon problems.
  • May provide basic advice and guidance to lower level Foundation Associate Workers and Entry Level Specialized Professionals within the scope of a project they are also assigned to.
  • Proficient computer skills with use of Microsoft office applications.
  • Knowledge in PLM and SAP is desired. Training will be provided if required
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • High attention to detail, self-starter and results driven.
  • Must possess good written and oral presentation skills and the ability to communicate ideas effectively to senior management.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills; ability to become involved in a number of projects in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Portuguese or Spanish language skills a plus

Working Conditions / Environment/ Special Requirements

  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
  • Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations
  • Availability for domestic and international travel
  • Hybrid work (at least three days a week at the office)
