This role is for a non-rotational Project Engineering Graduate, working in support of UK Army AH-64E Apache and UK RAF CH47 Chinook helicopter programmes. You will be based within the Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK) Vertical Lift (VL) Chief & Project Engineering Business Unit.

 

Working within the Project Engineering team, you will be responsible for contributing to the following:   

 

  • Satisfying current and emerging UK VL programme requirements, working with programme leadership to obtain required approvals to ensure business continuity for tasks relating to the ongoing operability of the UK AH-64E Apache and RAF CH47 Chinook platforms.

  • Providing coordination to engineering teams representing multiple skill areas, which may include internal and external resources and customers.

 

  • Coordinating project execution to complete the work statement, ensuring the engineering leadership team are aware of programme milestones and objectives, whilst identifying metrics and reporting to programme leadership to provide a status of functional performance.

 

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of the Statements of Work (SOWs) and Supplier Statements of Work (SSOWs) specific to the Vertical Lift core contracts and Additional Tasking (AT) portfolios.

 

  • Responding to changes to the SOW, assessing the impact and negotiating proposed changes to determine modifications to deliverables, resources, costs and schedules.

 

  • Ensuring the Coordination of Engineering Changes through attendance at Change Control Boards (CCBs).

 

  • Comparing actual results to the baseline plan, assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity and lessons learned.

 

  • Planning, identifying, and coordinating resources required to support the programme through the management of functional resource requirements, and reporting into weekly reviews.

 

  • Identifying programme/project risks, issues and opportunities (RIOs), and effectively managing them through mitigation ensuring items created through the execution of engineering activities are managed and reported appropriately.

 

  • Providing technical coordination for the development and execution of projects.

Primary Stakeholders:

  • Line Manager – Ask questions, learn and grow. Build a relationship with your line manager to get the best out of your placement. They can provide opportunities for learning, STEM, Boeing Resource Groups (BRGs) etc. They will manage your placement logistics (on-boarding, SoW, timekeeping/absence, wellbeing, training/development, mentoring, systems/site access, performance reviews etc.), and will be your primary interface with the Boeing Early Careers team.  

  • Technical Lead(s) – They will provide day-to-day coaching, guidance and leadership, and will be your direct interface to placement work allocation, planning and execution.

  • Chief Programme Engineer – Ultimate accountability to the Chief Programme Engineer for the work being undertaken. The CPE will provide authorisation and programme/project direction from a technical perspective.

  • Programme/Project Manager(s) – Ultimate accountability to the Programme/Project Manager(s) for the work being undertaken. The PM will provide authorisation direction from an overall programme/project perspective.

Knowledge to be gained:

  • Gain experience of Systems and Project Engineering from ‘cradle to grave’, following the engineering V-model approach.

  • Gain experience of managing real projects through the engineering lifecycle, all the way from initial requirements capture to execution, verification/validation, delivery, sustainment and disposal.

  • Interact with / lead multi-disciplined engineering functions.

  • Gain experience of managing engineering budgets and managing schedule commitments.

  • Gain technical familiarisation of the UK Apache and Chinook helicopter platforms.

  • Attend the Introduction to Systems Engineering Fundamentals (SE101) and Requirements Quality Workshop (RQW) instructor-led training courses.

  • Attend Programme Management training courses (incl. Project Management Fundamentals, RIO Management, Earned Value Management (EVM) and Control Account Management (CAM)).

  • Attend the instructor-led Introduction to Supply Chain Management (SC101) training course.

  • Attend instructor-led aircraft familiarisation training.

Basic Education and Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • At least a bachelor’s degree level qualification in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. An equivalent combination of technical education and experience would be an acceptable alternative.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Some technical knowledge of rotorcraft platforms.

  • Some experience coordinating teams representing multiple skill/functional areas, which may include internal and external resources and customers.

  • Some experience in Project Planning and Management.

  • Some Systems Engineering knowledge and skills.

  • Basic IT skills.

  • Good presentation skills.

  • Be a member of an Engineering Professional Organisation (such as the IET or RAeS) and have a development plan to progress towards IEng/CEng accreditation in the future.

Work Authorisation: This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.

 

Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance for which the Government requires UK Citizenship.

 

Relocation: This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
