Propulsion South Carolina under Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Propulsion Structures Design Engineer – Associate or Mid-Level to join our team at our location in South Carolina.

The structures design engineer bears overall responsibility for developing safe, compliant, and reliable aircraft propulsion structures at the lowest cost and weight that meets all established design criteria. The design must be completed within a committed time period, and management may emphasize priorities, such as airplane performance, cost, or schedule. Both roles require general supervision or direction.

As an Associate Structures Designer (Level 2), you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist to develop, integrate and document structural system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develop, maintain, and modify basic structural component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Assist with supplier development, test and production activities and coordination with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Support investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

As a Mid-Level Structures Designer (Level 3), you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and modify structural and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Perform, integrate analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Manage supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Develop new design processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in North Charleston, SC.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in one of the following engineering majors: Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Civil, with an emphasis in structures related course material.
  • Experience with Engineering classification such as Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of 2+ years’ experience or related work experience and/or combination of additional education and relevant experience with structural design.
  • Minimum of 2+ years’ experience with engineering tools such as CATIA, ENOVIA, and PDM is desired.
  • Ability to support occasional domestic travel to support our customers.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate engineering knowledge as a level 2/3 engineer ideally working in a Structural and/or Aerospace industry.
  • Experience with aircraft Nacelle structures design.
  • CATIA V5 experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of FAA and EASA requirements regarding specific commodities structure.
  • Experience in aircraft structure, materials and properties, design criteria, and/or release processes.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) in an engineering classification from an accredited course of study, in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Civil, and select Structures engineering.

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred accreditation standard although not required.

Associate (Level 2): Typically, 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Mid-Level (Level 3): Typically, 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Master +3 years related work experience.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Summary pay range:

Level 2: $76,000 - $102,500

Level 3: $89,000 - $121,500
