The Leonardo DRS Tactical Systems team develops secure communications and intelligence, information, cyber, electronic warfare and space (I2CEWS) technologies for airborne, shipboard, ground, man-portable, and space applications.  We are the world leader in Intelligence Broadcast System (IBS) based software defined radios and terminals for over 20 years and Link-11 data terminal sets and Link-22 signal processing controllers for over 40 years.  We produce the highest performance electronic warfare systems on the market ranging from ultra-low size, weight, and power man-portable systems to fully networked, multi-site fixed and mobile electronic support and electronic attack systems.  Our systems use state of the art software defined radio, cryptographic, and machine learning technologies developed, integrated, and produced by our team. The Tactical Systems team is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead, develop, and manage it’s growing multidisciplined engineering staff to design, develop, and sustain its products and technologies.  This individual will manage the engineering department including systems, mechanical, electrical, software, and test engineering functional areas.  The Senior Director of Engineering will have responsibility for hiring, developing, and retaining the appropriate staff to support program engineering requirements. 


Job Summary


Job Responsibilities



  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

  • Plan, manage, and direct the engineering staff on product development, production support, and sustainment activities

  • Responsible for complete staffing management to include personnel hiring, development, training, and retention to support business engineering requirements.

  • Lead the development of a multi-disciplined engineering team of systems, electrical, mechanical, and software engineers

  • Support program integrated product teams with qualified engineering resources

  • Manage personnel resource assignments, define hiring projections, and hiring contractors to support program schedules

  • Coordinate the creation, development, design, and improvement of complex divisional products in conformance with established programs and objectives.

  • Provide Engineering advice and assistance to other departments as required

  • Responsible for formulating and recommending Engineering policies and technical work assignments in accordance with project and company objectives

  • Support process compliance audits for development quality assurance, Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3, AS9100D, etc.

  • Advise appropriate personnel of the latest technical and Engineering developments

  • Manage budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments and departments, as appropriate

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required

  • Participate in preparation of proposals

  • Direct the work of others as assigned

  • Attend appropriate Engineering, customer or business meetings

  • Direct all Engineers in Division or Department(s)

  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 15+ years of experience

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
