Senior Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer Montreal or Toronto
Seeking an experienced EMC Engineer to lead certification and compliance activities for complex aerospace systems, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance against electromagnetic threats including EMI, HIRF, LIRF, lightning, and electrostatic discharge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead EMC engineering activities involving electromagnetic interference, radiated fields, lightning effects, and electrostatic discharge analysis.
- Perform detailed technical assessments using analytical methods, simulations, and similarity analyses to support certification and compliance.
- Define EMC strategies, project scope, schedules, milestones, and risk mitigation plans for engineering programs.
- Assess new and modified system and structural designs, identify EMC impacts, and develop compliance approaches.
- Review and approve EMC-related engineering documentation, including test procedures, analysis reports, and certification deliverables.
- Support aircraft certification, production, and in-service activities by resolving complex EMC-related issues.
- Prepare and oversee aircraft-level EMC testing, including EMI, HIRF, LIRF, lightning, and electrostatic discharge qualification programs.
- Develop Certification Design Compliance Reports and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers and interns.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, research organizations, and industry partners to drive technical solutions and innovation.
- Contribute to the development of EMC requirements, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of EMC experience, including at least 4 years supporting aerospace qualification and certification programs.
- Strong knowledge of RTCA/DO-160, SAE Aerospace Recommended Practices (ARPs), and familiarity with FAA, EASA, and TCCA certification requirements.
- Experience with aircraft systems and structures EMC compliance, certification testing, and regulatory documentation.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical projects, risk assessment, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Experience with aircraft development programs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with electromagnetic simulation tools is considered an asset.
