Job Description SummaryGE is a leader in the aerospace industry in developing computing platforms for embedded aviation applications. The Platform Computing and Networking Systems group defines the architecture and requirements for the computing and networking platforms and the tools required to operate and configure real-time computing systems. This architect position will be responsible for working with customers and defining these platforms.

The Computing and Networking Applications Engineer will develop and implement computing platform and network technology and products. This involves working with customers to understand their technology and product needs, architecting new systems, defining and developing new computing, network, and security technology and products, and working with product development teams to implement them. Working individually and in teams to perform internal research and development, respond to customer proposals, providing technical leadership, and advising product teams.

Job Description

  • This is a technical development and leadership role.

  • Investigate and implement processing architectures, including interfaces, operating systems, Multi-Core determinism, and embedded processors for high performance processing.

  • Develop and integrate network end systems and switches using Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), UDP, TCIP, ARINC 664, IEEE 802.3/802.1 Ethernet, and other network protocols.

  • Perform model-based systems design and simulation to evaluate alternate architectures and to automate validation and verification activities to reduce cost of change.

  • Work with both civil and military aerospace industries to generate certified architectures.

  • Develop and implement security such as IEEE 802.1X, MACsec, IPsec, Authentication, Digital Signatures, key management, and trusted boot.

  • Define and develop certifiable configuration tools for platform configuration, integration with model-based development tools, and security protocols.

  • Interacting with customers, both internal and external, to understand problems and convey architecture principles and concept solutions.

  • Efficient and effective communication of design and architecture concepts to systems, hardware and software architects/engineers for simulation, implementation, and verification/validation.

  • Contribute to the definition of product and technical roadmaps.

  • Perform engineering trade studies, demonstrations and develop technical proposals which define how GE’s products deliver strong value to the customer.

  • Propose, lead, and participate in Internal Research and Development (IRAD) programs.

  • Drive the development of intellectual property (patents and trademarks).

  • Develop and cultivate technical relationships within industry by working closely with customers and leading our participation in technical committees and symposiums.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, aeronautics or related technical or scientific field of study from an accredited university or college.

  • Minimum 10 years experience in Embedded Computing, Networking, Software, or Systems Engineering or equivalent capacity.

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Solid experience in product development and systems engineering activities.

  • Experience with design of embedded computing and/or networking platforms.

  • Experience with embedded software and/or hardware design.

  • Proven ability to define product solutions which meet customer needs and provide a strong user experience.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Very high business acumen; able to tactfully navigate industry meetings in a way that successfully influences GE outcomes.

  • Highly motivated, clear thinker; ability to operate at both a systems and product level to connect technical decisions to business outcomes.

  • Experience developing system architectures using Model Based Development techniques and tools.

  • Analytical people person with strong influencing skills; values relationships and able to build rapport.

  • Strong understanding of internal business operations; ability to navigate our process efficiently.

  • Experience with avionics design guidance documents such as RTCA DO-297, DO-178, DO-254 and SAE ARP4754 Experience with aerospace certification guidance documents such as SAE ARP4761.

  • Experience with embedded systems.

  • Experience in avionics and aircraft systems.

  • Experience leading and mentoring a group.

  • Experience with engineering processes including requirements definition, requirements allocation, requirements validation, requirements verification, integration, embedded software, electronic systems, FAA/EASA/NAA certification, and system safety.

  • Able to communicate directly with senior leadership inside and outside the company.

  • Experience in vehicle and avionics systems level design, integration, and verification.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a dynamic environment.
