Role Summary

The Senior Security Engineer is a subject matter expert for security software engineering at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. This role exercises considerable judgement in the developing, designing, building, and maintaining of security solutions and integrations to support various Cybersecurity capabilities.

Key Duties

  • Acts as a security solution expert for security software engineering for the Cybersecurity team.

  • Partners with Security Architecture, Governance, and Threat Defense teams to design and engineer security solutions.

  • Develops solutions and integrations to drive efficiency improvements, advance current capabilities and create new ones.

  • Integrates security requirements into technology lifecycle management and contributes to multiple, large, complex application projects with cross-functional teams and business users.

  • Leverages creative thinking and innovation, with pragmatic outcomes, that build constructive business relationships and gain the trust of others.

  • Performs security solution reviews and identifies opportunities for continuous process and technology improvements.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of experience in development, security engineering, security operations, or relevant field.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in computer science, systems engineering, information technology, management information systems, or a related discipline; or an additional 2 years of experience in lieu of this dgree.

  • Experience coding with Python or Ruby or similar and providing integrations with REST or SOAP API’s.

  • Knowledge of security best practices.

  • Demonstrated experience in advising and serving as a technical expert within a team.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and simplify complex problems to develop practical solutions.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • 5 years of ITS experience.

  • Industry certification in information security (e.g. CISA, CISSP, and/or GIAC).

  • Cloud Security experience (AWS and Azure), including both IaaS and PaaS models.

  • Experience integrating diverse systems (e.g., SIEM, Log Aggregation, AV/AM, Enterprise Detection and Response, Threat Intel and other tools) to drive efficiency in Incident Response and Threat Hunting.

  • Proven experience developing and executing plans, meeting deadlines, operating under tight time constraints.

  • Experience monitoring trends in information technology, identity & access, and security that could have an impact on the security of the organizations products, processes, infrastructure, or customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and clearly communicate across vast sections of IT and the business, including company leaders.

  • Demonstrated experience making articulate and effective verbal and written presentations to different audiences.

Salary Range

$112,000 - $168,000 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
