Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join our Huntsville, AL or Culpeper, VA site.

Reporting directly to Engineering Director, this position requires focused technical leadership to be responsive to the business demands in this area. Opening this role for the portfolio senior manager enables consistency of technical approach in design and logic on emerging Soldi Rocket Motor programs. Including production programs in this portfolio role facilitates the application of lessons learned from the production programs onto the new development programs. With the improved consistency (one portfolio manager), the program teams can benefit from improved oversight, improved velocity and a better quality of design and the design process. The portfolio based leadership also improves customer interface where the synergy of the programs can be leveraged. The additional manager will enable the current engineering leadership more opportunity to engage in strategic efforts and provides improved bench strength for succession purposes.

Essential Functions
  • (65) Working with Chief Engineers in the Defense programs to balance technical, schedule and cost risks to achieve program goals.
  • (15) Develop the Chief Engineers to ensure meeting the needs of current and future programs; to this end establish chief engineer development and succession plans and provide mentorship and coaching to chief engineers across his organization.
  • (10) Manage a functional engineering and development organization, implement approved plans, plan and direct the development and implementation of department systems, methods, standards, practices, and procedures.
  • (10) Lead team members in learning, adopting and applying the AR Business Operating System (ARBOS) toolset to achieve higher customer satisfaction and business excellence through process improvements.
  • Continuously stress health and safety, diversity, and environmental goals and maintain metrics to provide a safe, and ethical environment for all employees at all times.
Requirements

Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related engineering discipline. M.S. degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 14+ years of experience in space/defense propulsion systems including Solid Rocket Motor systems.
  • Experience as a chief engineer or project engineer on a significant propulsion program.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated positive interaction with both internal and external customers and the ability to engender respect from peers, customers and senior staff.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with new hires, senior staff, program chief engineers, manufacturing personnel, quality personnel and executives

Must be willing and available to travel to multiple Aerojet Rocketdyne sites (~20).

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
