Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join the Integrated Platform Solutions (IPS) team in Richardson, Texas.  As a Senior Principal Systems Engineer, you will develop system requirements, models, designs, and validate these multi-domain Nuclear Command and Control (NC2) mission systems solutions used on the aircraft and ground stations being developed for our country’s strategic defense systems.  This role includes focusing on customer needs and requirements in order to design, develop, document and test both hardware and software systems. Additionally, this position will be responsible for motivating team members, facilitating meetings, cultivating and reinforcing appropriate group values, behaviors, methods, and processes while identifying, analyzing and correcting problems.

Responsibilities span the entire development lifecycle, including pursuit and order capture, system design, requirements definition, requirement allocation, requirement traceability, use case development for software/hardware, systems integration, verification testing and qualification.  

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as a lead systems engineer to capture, analyze, decompose, model, translate and create requirements and designs for large complex mission and communication systems.
  • Leads systems engineers in the development of functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware and software solutions. 
  • Manage requirements and design changes while reporting technical risk areas.
  • Apply SysML concepts for System Modeling across a full engineering lifecycle
  • Author technical proposals/estimates and serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews.
  • Estimate, track, manage and report status relating to technical, cost, schedule, and risk performance for assigned scope of work.
  • Mentor product development teams in the utilization of the appropriate processes and tools, thus increasing product quality and improving customer satisfaction.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Ability to obtain Final Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Expertise in systems engineering and open systems architectures
  • Operational concept development
  • System and product design
  • Requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and configuration management.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Operational experience with embedded (low-level) software development, application software development, and/or hardware development
  • Development of integration and test plans, test cases, and procedures
  • Prior experience with control account management  
  • Experience using DOORS, Cameo, JIRA or similar tools
  • Experience in technical proposal writing
  • Experience with bidding utilizing SEER tools
  • Experience with regulatory and certification requirements
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment, being part of a highly integrated team working closely with SW, Integration and Verification teams
  • Experience and exposure to other related disciplines such as human factors, system safety, reliability & maintainability, and cybersecurity.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
