We are seeking an experienced project engineer with background in gimballed systems and large telescope manufacturing (1 - 3.5 m class) to join our team at Starfire Optical Range, Kirtland AFB, NM. Starfire Optical Range is a world-class research site focused on advancing technologies for ground based optical imaging for US Space Forcess needs in Space Domain Awareness. This position will lead a diverse team of engineers in upgrades/ modifications to existing telescopes; development of specifications for new procurements; and other projects as needed to support Boeings contract with AFRL.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides engineering leadership to a team representing multiple skill areas, which includes internal and external resources and customers.
  • Develops statement of work (SOW) to satisfy research and development.
  • Plans, identifies and coordinates resources required over the life of the project or program.
  • Leads project execution to complete the work statement.
  • Prepares an presents outcomes, assessments and corrective action initiatives to Boeing management and customer

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. TS Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years experience working on a large telescope
  • 5+ years project management experience
  • TS Clearance required pre-hire

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience): 

  • Experience managing projects and utilizing standard project management tools (e.g. MS Project, Gantt charts, resource load charts) .

Typical Education and Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years related work experience, Master+18 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Summary Pay Range: $164,900 - $223,100
