Job Description:

STS Technical Services is hiring a Senior Quality Engineer to support advanced CNC machining operations in Brookfield, Wisconsin. This role is ideal for a technically skilled quality professional who thrives in precision manufacturing environments and understands the demands of aerospace and defense production standards.

If you have deep experience with AS9100 quality systems, statistical process control, and complex CNC machining processes, this is an opportunity to play a key role in improving product quality, production efficiency, and manufacturing reliability.

Position Overview

The Senior Quality Engineer supports advanced quality planning for CNC machining operations in an AS9100-certified manufacturing environment. This role develops and maintains quality plans that ensure product quality, on-time delivery, and cost efficiency while bridging project management, manufacturing engineering, and production operations.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Quality Engineering

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing quality control plans for CNC machining processes including milling, turning, and multi-axis machining
  • Create and manage quality documentation including process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, inspection plans, and quality work instructions
  • Select appropriate gages, inspection fixtures, CMM strategies, and inspection frequencies
  • Support new production parts through advanced quality planning, measurement system analysis, and first article inspections
  • Perform statistical analysis to support production qualification and process capability
  • Provide hands-on support on the shop floor to resolve manufacturing and quality issues

AS9100 and Quality Compliance

  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with AS9100, customer requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Support First Article Inspections in accordance with AS9102 requirements and production qualification processes such as PPAP
  • Participate in internal and external quality audits
  • Support corrective and preventive action programs to address nonconformances
  • Maintain quality system documentation and change control processes

Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction

  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes and reduce scrap
  • Lead or support Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen improvement initiatives
  • Analyze manufacturing data to improve product quality, throughput, and operational efficiency
  • Support standardization and best practices across machining operations

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers, production supervisors, planners, and leadership
  • Communicate technical requirements and quality expectations across departments
  • Interface with suppliers, customers, and subcontractors regarding manufacturing quality requirements
  • Provide support to vendors and subcontractors as needed
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems
  • Advanced understanding of CNC machining processes including milling, turning, grinding, and multi-axis machining
  • Proficiency interpreting GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • High attention to detail and documentation discipline
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced manufacturing environments
  • Hands-on, proactive approach to quality improvement and process optimization
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Seven to ten years of progressively related experience in manufacturing quality or engineering environments
  • Minimum three years of experience supporting aerospace or defense CNC machining operations
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 quality systems, NADCAP requirements, and customer-specific quality standards
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Familiarity with ERP and MES systems preferred
Certifications
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred

Technical Experience
  • Advanced experience with CMM programming and inspection software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of measurement system analysis including Gage R&R, bias, linearity, and stability studies
  • Experience with statistical process control tools such as Minitab, QDAS, or similar software
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, height gages, optical comparators, and surface roughness testers
