Delta Air Lines is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join our Information Technology team. This role focuses on mainframe software application development for the travel, airline, and reservation industry. Working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, you will leverage your expertise in IBM zTPF systems to support Delta’s core operational hub and contribute to ongoing transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, enhancement, and support of TPF applications.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize system performance, resolving issues promptly.
  • Facilitate complex application performance tests for successful outcomes.
  • Provide application teams with data analysis and analytics following performance testing.
  • Focus on supporting a wide variety of test systems and test platforms.
  • Automate complex test system initializations and facilitate application teams testing requirements.
  • Monitor test system health and triage system level issues along with application dumps.
  • Translate business requirements into technical designs and implement solutions.
  • Code, test, and implement software changes using Assembly, C++, and Sabretalk programming languages.
  • Perform the full software development lifecycle, ensuring adherence to Delta standards.
  • Support users with test tools, diagnose issues quickly, and implement workarounds while awaiting fixes.
  • Conduct quality checks on implementations presented for RFCs and assist with TPF changes as required.
  • Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • 5+ years of experience in TPF Airline Reservations and/or TPF Airline Operations application development.
  • Proficiency in Assembly, C++, and Sabretalk programming languages.
  • Strong knowledge of TPFDF and ZTPFGI/test/debug environments.
  • Ability to transform business and functional requirements into technical solutions.
  • Experience with error/dump analysis and troubleshooting complex systems.
  • Familiarity with Delta’s TPF test environments and IT landscape.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work across multiple projects.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous airline industry experience.
  • Familiarity with Delta Change Policies and DevOps integration.
  • Passion for high-quality software delivery and continuous process improvement.
