Job Overview

We have an immediate need for an Specialist Engineer in Control Systems Analysis at our Huntsville, AL Defense Headquarters location.

In this position, the engineer will work control systems analysis activities associated with controllable solids / throttling solid rocket technology for existing and new advanced development programs. The work includes dynamic modeling and simulation, control algorithm design and development, actuation system modeling and analysis, steady state and transient analysis and design, requirement development, system integration, avionics integration, test facility integration, testing, data analysis, and presentation of results. System integration may include integration of algorithms, simulation models, avionics, software and hardware, instrumentation, and test equipment with test facilities. Testing may include laboratory testing of avionics and subsystem components, validation and verification testing, rocket motor hot fire testing, and flight testing. Expertise with Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, control theory, propulsion theory, testing, integration, avionics, test equipment, instrumentation, and signal processing is highly desired. Extensive experience with Matlab/Simulink is highly desired, particularly any experience with autocode generation.

Essential Functions

35 - Working often independently and in a technical leadership role, apply advanced techniques and theories to perform transient and steady state analysis for solid rocket propulsion systems. Expertise in control theory, simulation and modeling characteristics are important for this role. Help guide team in using and developing system simulation software tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and other custom software applications. Support development of rocket propulsion hardware and software requirements, including coordination of derivation of internal requirements allocation. Develop compliance assessments and verification plans.

25 - Participate in system integration of control algorithms, simulation models, avionics, and test equipment. This may require validation testing, data analysis, and system trouble-shooting to obtain proper system level integration.

20 - Support propulsion system testing, including test plan and test procedure development, pre-test predictions, and development of test-related software. Perform test data analysis.

10 - Mentor early career control systems analysis engineers to provide insight and knowledge of Aerojet Rocketdyne Control Systems Analysis work and propulsion systems. Peer review the mentees work. Participate in Integrated Product Team meetings. Participate in planning and support propulsion system development tests and verification testing through solid rocket motor test setup, conduct, and data reduction.

10 - Document work in reports and presentations, and present results to diverse audiences that may include customer and industry technical experts. Lead peer reviews of work results.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science, or other relevant discipline/science with (nine) 9 years of directly related technical experience in design engineering disciplines OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Expertise in the design, analysis and/or testing of solid propulsion systems including actuation systems is desired.

Expertise with MATLAB/Simulink, system modeling, and propulsion is strongly desired.

Experience with GNC - Guidance, Navigation, and Control

Travel:

The Engineer would be expected to travel up to 10-20 to support testing, for training and mentoring, and to support technical meetings with customers.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
