As a Flight Dynamics (FD) Systems Engineer, you will own the architecture, requirements, and lifecycle execution of flight dynamics capabilities within a Common Ground Enterprise (CGE), supporting operational missile defense space systems from design through integration and test.
Responsibilities:
- Lead system architecture, design, and requirements development for Flight Dynamics (FD) within a Common Ground Enterprise (CGE)
- Support orbital analysis and mission design, including:
- Orbital maneuver and burn planning
- Station keeping
- Orbit raising
- Collision avoidance maneuvers (CAM)
- Flight dynamics automation
- Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to FD workflows and interfaces
- Integrate and assess COTS flight dynamics tools, including a.i.Solutions FreeFlyer, Meridian, or equivalent
- Support multi-satellite orbit analysis and performance assessments
- Develop and manage CCSDS-compliant orbital data products, including:
- Orbit Parameter Message (OPM)
- Orbit Ephemeris Message (OEM)
- Orbit Mean-Elements Message (OMM)
- Author and maintain Space-Ground and Ground-Antenna ICDs supporting FD operations
- Support FD software development, integration, and test, including lab and operational environments
- Maintain cradle-to-grave systems engineering ownership in a fast-paced program environment
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or related STEM discipline
- 8+ years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience
- Systems Engineering experience supporting Flight Dynamics or orbital mechanics systems
- Experience with space and ground system integration
- Familiarity with CGE or enterprise ground architectures
Preferred Qualifications:
- COTS FD tools (FreeFlyer, Meridian, or similar)
- CCSDS orbital message standards (OPM, OEM, OMM)
- Space command or operational space mission experience
- Space-Ground and Ground-Antenna ICD development
- COTS-based Command & Control (C2) system design
- Databases & Streaming: InfluxDB, Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
- Platforms: Kubernetes, microservices architecture
- Cloud: AWS, Red Hat OpenShift (RHOSP)
- Agile development environments
