As a Planning & Scheduling (P&S) Systems Engineer, you will own mission planning and scheduling capabilities across space and ground systems, supporting U.S. missile defense initiatives through end-to-end system design, integration, and automation of large-scale constellation operations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead system architecture, design, and requirements development for Mission Unique Software supporting Mission Planning (MP) and Planning & Scheduling (P&S) within a Common Ground Enterprise (CGE) environment
- Design and assess automated scheduling algorithms supporting large-scale satellite constellations (up to 3,000 satellites)
- Evaluate and integrate COTS P&S and mission planning tools for spacecraft and ground systems
- Perform P&S trade studies, including evaluation of scheduling algorithms and open-source automation frameworks
- Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to mission planning and scheduling workflows
- Develop and optimize P&S algorithms related to:
- Communication schedule optimization
- Orbital maneuver planning automation
- Software rollout planning and execution automation
- Support MP and P&S software development, integration, and test, including lab and operational environments
- Author and manage Space-Ground and Ground-Antenna ICDs for COTS-based Command and Control (C2) systems
- Maintain cradle-to-grave systems engineering ownership in a fast-paced program environment
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or related STEM field
- 8+ years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience
- Core Experience
- Systems Engineering experience supporting Mission Planning (MP) and Planning & Scheduling (P&S)
- Experience with space and ground system integration, including requirements, design, and test
- Familiarity with CGE or enterprise ground architectures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Space-Ground and Ground-Antenna ICD development
- COTS-based C2 system design and integration
- P&S lab or operational integration alongside test teams
- Space command or operational space mission experience
- Databases & Streaming: InfluxDB, Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
- Infrastructure: Kubernetes, microservices architecture
- Cloud Platforms: AWS, Red Hat OpenShift (RHOSP)
- Agile development environments
