An excellent career opportunity is available for an Advanced Structural Engineer within the Skills Center of Excellence within the UPT Engineering group in Tulsa, OK, or Houston, TX. The structural engineer will be an essential technical resource supporting the delivery of basic equipment designs and advancing UOP process technologies in the refining, petrochemical, and gas processing areas. Their primary responsibility will be to cover the structural engineering needs for the Russell and Callidus product lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide proposal/sales support by reviewing client specifications and requirements. Provide steel weight estimates, including estimates of major member sizes. 
  • Review and confirm the code basis for each project.
  • Prepare structural design and fabrication specifications for each project.
  • Prepare a foundation loading diagram for the project
  • Collaborate with other project team members to comply with project requirements and meet project schedules.
  • Review of detailed design, including drawings, MTO, 3D Model, and STAAD analysis.
  • Review of fabrication shop detail drawings and fabrication sequence.
  • Guide and monitor sub-contracted structural engineers.
  • Engage in detailed civil/structural engineering and work with designers and/or CAD operators to ensure accuracy and consistency in drawing presentation and information.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years experience with refining/petrochemical industry design codes/specifications: AISC, ASCE 7, IBC, ACI, API 
  • 3+ years experience with STAAD, including modeling, analysis, design, and troubleshooting

WE VALUE

  • Experience performing wind load design of significant structures in the petrochemical industry per design codes 
  • Experience performing seismic design of tall structures (over 60 ft) in the petrochemical industry, including seismic dynamic analysis and modal response spectrum analysis
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work effectively within a team-based environment 
  • Project Engineering experience with an EPC contractor 
  • Strong multi-tasking skills 
  • Ability to travel internationally as required 
  • Fabrication shop and site experience 
  • Offshore Design Experience 
  • Familiarity with structural materials and shapes
