As a Sr Advanced Systems Engineer, you will utilize your advanced systems engineering skills to support Honeywell Aerospace in delivering innovative solutions across a variety of mission systems opportunities. In this role, you will be encouraged to think creatively and expand your understanding of mission systems engineering while collaborating with some of the industry’s most talented engineers. You will apply your expertise to evaluate complex mission scenarios and help achieve desired operational standards.
You will report directly to our Sr. Engineering Manager and you’ll work out of our Kanata, ON OR Cambridge, ON location.
You will contribute to the development of Honeywell Aerospaces state-of-the-art mission systems for military, space, and commercial applications, including satellite operations, space exploration, and advanced communication systems. In this position, you will play a crucial role within a multidisciplinary team focused on designing, testing, and validating mission systems from concept to operational deployment. Projects may include mission architecture design, integration of systems, and performance assessments across various components of space systems.
The Honeywell building is a controlled goods program environment. Candidates must be eligible for CGP and CSP security clearance.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the evaluation and writing of bids and proposals, contributing technical expertise to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Assist in estimating labor and timelines for mission systems engineering projects, providing input for project planning.
- Support the requirements definition, validation, and compliance evaluations for mission systems.
- Conduct system architecture modeling and simulation to analyze performance against mission objectives.
- Develop and refine system design documentation and performance specifications, ensuring adherence to standards.
- Collaborate with external vendors and partners for integration and testing efforts, fostering strong relationships.
- Engage in customer site visits to gather requirements and demonstrate system capabilities.
- Contribute to the management of technical proposals, schedules, and budgets, providing updates as necessary.
Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in solving complex engineering problems.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements management, verification and validation.
- Minimum 2 years of experience authoring technical documentation for key stakeholders.
WE VALUE
- Ability to convey subtle or complex messages clearly, as appropriate for the topic and audience
- Knowledge of mission systems engineering processes, including requirements management, space agency (NASA, CSA, ESA, etc.) standards and mission phases.
- Experience in evaluating commercial and defense space mission proposals, including RFPs and RFIs.
- Familiarity with systems integration and testing methodologies for space systems.
- Proficiency in modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, SysML, Model-Based Systems Engineering tools).
- Understanding of satellite communication systems, space vehicle design, and operational constraints.
- Experience with complete engineering lifecycle from concept development through to operational deployment.
- Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, who consistently take the initiative to get things done, and are willing to do things before being asked by others or forced to by events.
- Good written communication skills.
