Job Description SummaryAirworthiness and Certification is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on compliance and safety. The objective of the office is to serve the FAA and EASA in the regulatory constructs through delegated or procedurally defined responsibilities, serve the company in facilitating communications with world-wide regulatory bodies and as a source of expertise in understanding regulatory requirements, and overall being a champion for regulatory compliance and product safety. The Staff Engineer in A&C support execution of these responsibilities and facilitates internal and external interactions.

Job Description Roles and Responsibilities

  • Represent GE when interfacing with FAA or FCAAs on Engineering, continued operational safety, and certification issues
  • Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment
  • Utilize experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to affect short-term and some long-term business goals
  • Execute with some guidance the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements
  • Provide technical leadership to other personnel assigned to support the effort on assigned projects and/or tasks
  • Mentors others in the organization
  • Document technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
  • Define develop and improve business processes related to certification to improve quality and productivity within Airworthiness and Certification
  • Utilize Lean tools to lead business process improvements

Required Qualifications

  • MSc degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited university or college.
  • Significant experience in an engineering environment, leading teams directly or indirectly
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
  • Experience in engineering roles with activities related to certification, quality, validation and/or airworthiness

Desired Characteristics:

  • Significant commercial engine design and engine test experience of new and/or modified engine models
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations applicable to type certification of turbine engines, particularly Part 33 airworthiness standards and FAA orders and guidance material pertaining to certification and continued airworthiness
  • Knowledge of non-US aviation regulations, especially those of the European Aviation Safety Agency, such as CS-E
  • Experience in certification activities for a commercial engine program working with the FAA Engine Certification Office staff or with the GE ODA Unit
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to guide and influence others
  • Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work
