Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Staff Systems Engineer (26-164) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Located in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that allow an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations worldwide and regionally to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

The Engineering Manager (EM) will be responsible for helping ensure that the engineering teams technical, cost, and schedule performance for assigned product teams is properly managed.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage dependencies with other product teams and support external dependencies

  • Handle and document technical issues

  • Support the development of proposals

  • Ensure that the product teams technical commitments are clearly understood and executed

  • Maintain a backlog of assigned features to meet technical commitments

  • Ensure teams follow organizational processes

  • Apply advanced concepts, theories, and principles, and contribute to developing new principles and ideas

  • Handles highly complex problems with consultative guidance; wrong decisions could generally cause failure in reaching key organizational goals and damage the organization’s technological reputation

  • Advises top management and customers on sophisticated technical research studies and applications

  • Experience in management or leadership roles, along with the relevant skills

  • Work will be performed as part of an Agile Scrum team under the guidance of a Team Lead who reports to the C2BMC Regional Systems Engineering Manager

  • Work will be performed within a designated closed area. This is a full-time, in-office role with no option for remote work

Basic Qualifications:

 

Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 12 years of experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred) in a STEM-related field with 10 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related discipline with 8 years of relevant work experience

  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

  • Willingness to travel 10 of the time for business needs

  • Coordinate with Control Account Managers (CAMs) and EVM staff to determine cost and schedule performance

  • Generate Estimated Time to Complete (ETC), Earned Value Management (EVM), and other engineering metrics to identify and resolve all technical or staffing issues while managing cost and schedule

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering is highly preferred

  • Graduate Certificate: Model-Based Systems Engineering (e.g., Stevens, Caltech, UCSD, USC, GWU, INCOSE cohort, etc.)

  • Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification

  • Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Intermediate (OCSMP - MBI)

  • The ideal candidate will have Systems Engineering or Architecture experience, along with Test skills, as a preferred qualification

Candidates for this position should ideally possess some or all of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Systems Engineer with over 9 years of experience collaborating within integrated teams alongside other systems engineers to develop solutions encompassing all stages of the Systems Engineering Development Lifecycle

  • Proven experience fulfilling all responsibilities of this role

  • Regularly interact with customers, focusing on eliciting their needs and requirements

  • Experience with one or more components of the Missile Defense System

  • Experience with one or more components involved in Space Defense, Space Domain Awareness, or other Space Missions

  • Experience with complex Command and Control Systems, particularly those with extensive networking capabilities

  • Experience handling many responsibilities of this role, especially in concept development and requirement breakdown

  • Experience with MBSE approaches and tools (e.g., Cameo)

  • Experience working on tasks where failure to achieve good results typically causes program delays and wasted resources

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate (both written and verbal) with others, present technical content, and accept constructive feedback

  • Ability to handle short notice and urgent tasks without losing efficiency

Primary Level Salary Range: $161,000.00 - $253,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
