Supplier Development Engineer

Rate Negotiable, but likely between 40 - 50 per hour Umbrella

Morson currently have an interesting and varied role as a Supplier Development Engineer for one of our prestigious Aerospace clients. We’re looking for someone capable of playing a key role of managing manufacturers and ensuring the delivery of high-quality Aerospace components in efficient timescales. The role will technically be based in Prestwick however you will spend the majority of your time around the UK on supplier sites.

This role combines the skill sets of Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and Supplier Liaison Officer. You will be embedded with suppliers to fix supply issues so strong stakeholder management skills are essential. You will support the business unit and group procurement strategy in terms of supplier selection, development, and growth of a robust global supply chain to meet existing and future business requirements. Ideally, we’re looking for someone who worked within engineering suppliers to create recovery plans with good supply chain experience. We’re expecting this to be a 6-month contract with a negotiable rate, somewhere close to an Umbrella rate of 45 per hour plus travel expenses.

Responsibilities

  • To provide expertise in collation of engineering data packs and manufacturing methods for business unit and global sourcing strategies
  • Analysis of work statements
  • Support technical assessment phase for RFP submissions from suppliers reviewing manufacturing plans and technical capability
  • Act as lead interface in supplier technical & risk assessment process prior to contract award
  • Support supplier negotiations and workshops in terms of price challenge through value engineering reviews
  • Provide LAI, FAI and quality support in supply base as required both for business unit and group, providing expertise in flow down of quality requirements
  • Support value engineering workshops with suppliers to identify continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives
  • Support customer driven value engineering workshops to identify cost reduction and lean opportunities
  • Lead supplier impact analysis on major engineering changes / re-design
  • Support the identification of training and development requirements of Supplier Development Engineering staff through the PDR process.

Essential Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience, within a Quality Engineering or Supply Chain Management environment.
  • Good communication skills – ability to interface effectively with customers and Suppliers.
  • Knowledge of engineering systems and the ability to deploy the Quality Toolset.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement and lean tool sets
  • Commercial, contractual and financial awareness
  • Understanding of developing manufacturing methodologies & technologies
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Packages – Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access

Desirable Requirements

  • Preferably be qualified to HNC level in a related Quality /Manufacturing Engineering discipline or equivalent
  • Possess knowledge of AS 9100 as well as regulatory authority approval, and certification requirements.
  • Project management skills
  • Experience of quality management within the Aerospace industry

Recognising the RESTRICTED nature of the work, suitable candidates will be SC cleared or eligible for this level of clearance, SC must be in place before start date.
