Boeings Space & Launch Engineering team seeks a Electrical System Integration and Test Engineer to Lead the Ground Systems Software Test Team in Huntsville, Alabama.

You will join the Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) diverse and multidisciplinary team and work with customers to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements for the design, development, test, and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite of NASAs Space Launch System (SLS).

NASAs Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo to and beyond our moon and into deep space.  SLS launches larger payloads farther into our solar system, and faster, than ever before possible.  This will be the most powerful rocket ever built.  It will enable diverse exploration in science and security missions.  Boeing is the prime contractor for the design, development, test, and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite of NASAs Space Launch System (SLS).

This position is a Ground Systems and Integration position on our Space Launch Exploration Upper Stage team, enabling NASA to send large co-manifested payloads along with an astronaut crew back to the Lunar Surface to support the overall Artemis Program.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design hardware, software and interface specifications for Tests and validations to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirement for SLS Avionics Integration Lab developmental systems
  • Assists in monitoring supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements
  • Solve problems concerning fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle
  • Performs maintenance and operations of the fabricating/modification/computing/communication assets supporting the Ground System, Flight Systems and Test stakeholders
  • Provides a Software Development Environment for integrated testing of software for data and command and control activities through Ground System HW and Avionics and Propulsion control box simulations, with some Hardware in the Loop (HWIL)
  • Create and update drawings of equipment layouts/assembly/ and interconnect diagrams (VISIO)
  • Create and update work instructions, standard operating procedures that meet the AIL Operations Plan and internal Boeing CM procedures (Word)
  • Troubleshoot communication issues that may be attributed to HW, isolate issue to HW, or combination of HW and SW; compiles data from multiple sources and performs analysis and create resolution. Supports HW/SW OS and driver troubleshooting
  • Assists stakeholders in the development of engineering life cycle products, services and processes (e.g. production prototyping fabrication of Electrical Ground System, beta system design and fabrication and checkout for test development, test asset configuration changes (Cable connectivity/Card swaps, obsolescence assessments and replacements) supporting the software development teams
  • Maintains and improves products, processes and services to ensure consistent quality of data used to accomplish engineering tasks (includes Problem Reports/Root Cause Corrective Action)
  • Analyzes products to verify conformance to design records and initiates updates per processes for documentation changes.
  • Provides planning and scheduling (e.g. gant charts) on Avionics Integration Lab (AIL) tasks, to include performance tracking and variance justification with weekly updates to provide agile weekly performance to plan reporting.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):

  • 3+ years experience working on a Nasa program
  • 3+ years experience in a prototyping and lab development environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills & Experience):

  • Experience in EGSE Hardware Development.

Typical Education & Experience:

Lead (Level 4): 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 6 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+4 years related work experience, 8 years related work experience, etc.).

Senior (Level 5): 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+7 years related work experience, 11 years related work experience, etc.).

Additional Information:

Travel may be required up to 10 of the time; domestically depending on business needs.

Summary pay range for Senior (Level 4): $75,650 – $102,350

Summary pay range Senior Lead (Level 5): $90,950 – $123,050
