Boeing Vertical Lift Mission Assurance is seeking enthusiastic candidates for System Safety Engineer – Attack Programs (Subject Matter Expert or Senior) to join our System Safety Engineering team in Mesa, AZ.

We are seeking a broad range of experience levels for our new Systems Safety Engineers including: Subject Matter Expert or Senior Safety Engineers to join our team supporting the Attack Programs in Mesa AZ (AH-64 Apache and AH-6 Little Bird). 

This is a unique opportunity to work on proven platforms, ensuring mission success and continuing to ensure Product Safety is designed into the Attack programs for all USG and international customers.  The ideal candidates will have an engineering degree and experience with rotorcraft safety (ARP 4761 and MIL STD 882E) including some or all of the following: Engineering, AH-64E pilot, or software. Military and maritime experience is also a plus. Skills in technical writing and communication are a must.

At Boeing, Safety is at the core of everything we do.  As a Senior System Safety Engineer, you will be expected to lead the team utilizing your Engineering, Safety, Aircraft Systems, and Platform experience to achieve Program goals which include:  identification, mitigation and documentation of all potential and existing hazards.  Successful candidates will have the ability to ask tough questions, challenge conventional thinking and bring potential hazards to our aircraft and crew to light.  You’ll have the ability to work across the entire life cycle of the program, from conceptual development into design and test, production and sustainment of fielded aircraft. 

In addition to leading the team, other typical tasks will include assessing a variety of Engineering documents, data and artifacts, while working with Engineering to determine the safest and most cost-effective solutions to a wide variety of actual and potential hazards.  Assessments include data from the field, factory, engineering, and calculating probability and severity of possible outcomes and working with the Design teams to influence a safer more robust system.  Successful candidates will have excellent technical writing and documentation skills.  As a Senior System Safety Engineer, you’ll be expected to interface with all levels of Engineering and Program Management as well as our Customers.

This is a unique opportunity in a fast growing and critical discipline while leading a team of bright motivated System Safety engineers. We will pair selected candidates with an experienced System Safety Professional to grow your knowledge of both Safety and the Rotorcraft Platforms while ensuring Mission Success.  Additionally, in this role, you will have the opportunity to lead appropriate efforts. 

These programs are part of Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s (BDS) Vertical Lift Division located in Mesa, AZ.

Position Responsibilities:

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Subject Matter Expert or Senior System Safety Engineers.

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify basic lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions

  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces

  • Performs analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture

  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success

  • Supports the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. *These positions will also be eligible for the Vertical Lift 9x80 alternate work schedule.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience in systems, mechanical, electrical and/or software engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience in systems and safety engineering

  • Experience working across organizations and cross-functional groups to ensure project coordination, implementation and completion

  • AH-64E Pilot

  • Rotorcraft Experience

Typical Education & Experience:

Subject Matter Expert (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 5)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years related work experience, Master+12 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range Subject Matter Expert (Level 4): $119,850.00 - $162,150.00

Summary pay range Senior (Level 5): $147,050.00 - $198,950.00
