This position is part of the rapidly growing Electro-Optical (EO) / Infra-Red (IR) Mission Systems team within BR&T. The EO/IR Mission Systems (EMS) team has more than quadrupled in size over the past 18 months due to new contract wins, and continues to see increased demand from Boeing’s customers. We’re designing, building, and testing cutting edge sensor systems for airborne and space platforms. Our focus is always on the mission – connecting people through safer air travel and protection of the warfighter from its adversaries. This isn’t your typical Boeing team – we are focused on the entire lifecycle of design: from modeling and simulation of new ideas, through prototype demonstrations, and eventually transitioning to production systems.
Our team provides complete engineering solutions to Boeing and its customers, including systems engineering, optics design, mechanical design, algorithms, software development, firmware development, electronics, and advanced system modeling and simulations. We are seeking a Systems Engineer in Huntington Beach, CA to support the systems engineering for Software, Firmware and algorithm development supporting prototype EO/IR sensing systems for airborne and space platforms. We are looking for a range of experience including Senior or Principal Systems Engineers.
Candidates should have experience with all phases of software development, including creation and tracking of requirements, development of software documentation covering architecture, algorithms and interfaces, software configuration management, and development and execution of test and verification plans. Additionally, candidates should have experience with the Agile software development process (sprint planning, scrum meetings, story definition, story points, etc.).
Position Responsibilities:
Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions
Lead evaluation of customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
Identify, define and maintain internal and external software/firmware interfaces and associated documentation
Plan and lead software/firmware qualification testing in both simulated environments and on flight hardware for verification and validation of requirements
Interface with program leadership and the customer on technical design issues and to present on software/firmware system designs
Lead analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture
Lead analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success
Lead, develop, maintain and identify improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, FPGA/firmware/software configuration management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes
Lead activities to develop and maintain full documentation of architecture, algorithms, FPGA/firmware, software and system interfaces
Plan and lead research projects to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
5+ years of experience in systems engineering for FPGA/firmware or software systems
5+ years of experience performing software integration, test, validation, and verification
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Experience applying systems engineering principles during the development of complex hardware/software solutions on an aerospace platform
Experience providing systems engineering for research and development contracts
Experience as a chief engineer or systems engineering IPT lead with weapons design, software avionics/avionics/electrical design, and weapons system architecture
Experience writing software for real-time digital signal processing for aerospace and defense applications
Experience working with technical teams either as an Integrated Project Team (IPT) lead or technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) on System Engineering or FPGA/Firmware/Software Engineering applications
Experience in developing the avionics architecture supporting FPGA/firmware/software.
Experience managing supplier relationships, strategic partnerships and supplier performance
Typical Education/Experience:
Senior (Level 5)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years related work experience, Master+12 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Principal (Level 6)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years related work experience, Master+18 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Summary Pay Plan Senior: $157,250 -$ 212,750
Summary Pay Plan Principal: $186,260 - $251,850
