We are seeking a Systems Engineer - Modeling and Simulation in Huntington Beach, CA or Huntsville, AL with experience using Agile software development methods for space and airborne platforms to support the development of Space Payloads for optical sensing systems. Responsibilities will include supporting planning and executing Space Payload Element Modeling and Simulation development and integration for the upgrades to the program Element.

We are looking for a broad range of experience including Mid-Level or Senior Systems Engineers.

This position is part of the rapidly growing Electro-Optics Infrared Mission Systems team within Boeing Research and Technology. The Electro-Optics Infrared Mission Systems team has more than quadrupled in size over the past 18 months due to new contract wins and continues to see increased demand from Boeing’s customers. We’re designing, building, and testing cutting edge sensor systems for airborne and space platforms. Our focus is always on the mission – connecting people through safer air travel and protection of the warfighter from its adversaries.

This isn’t your typical Boeing team – we are focused on the entire lifecycle of design: from modeling and simulation of new ideas, through prototype demonstrations, and eventually transitioning to production systems. Our team provides complete engineering solutions to Boeing and its customers, including systems engineering, optics design, mechanical design, algorithms, software development, firmware development, electronics, and advanced system modeling and simulations.

Candidates should have experience with engineering including a broad knowledge of design, stress analysis, certification, and engineering principles. Candidates should also have experience collaborating with other Integrated Product Teams to execute strategy of growth, on-time delivery, and technical excellence as well as extensive experience in performing engineering work.

If you’re interested in working in a fast-paced environment while taking a design from clean sheet of paper through flight demonstration, ideally with some technology that’s never been flown before, then this is the group for you!

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support requirements decomposition and algorithm development of the Payload M&S products

  • Support activities to develop flow diagrams, Software Design documents, Interface Control documents

  • Support activities to review and develop system designs through Models Based Systems Engineering tools such as Cameo

  • Support activities to decomposing high fidelity concepts into lower fidelity algorithms or characterize performance in statistical models

  • Work effectively in a rapid paced team environment

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret / SSBI clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 3+ years of experience with modeling & simulation

  • 3+ experience with systems engineering on a missile, weapon, or defense program

  • 3+ years of experience in system engineering (e.g., Systems, Design, Architecture, Integration, Requirements or Test)

  • 3+ years of experience designing a composite Mission Systems architecture for a new or derivative product

  • 3+ years of experience as a systems engineer assessing functionality or performance of a complex system

  • 3+ years of experience operating in an Agile development environment

  • 3+ years of experience with one or more of the following programming languages? (C, C++, Fortran, Python, Matlab, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Active U.S. Top Secret / SSBI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

  • Experience with MBSE approaches, methods, and techniques

  • Experience with Git, Jenkins, or the Atlassian tool suite (Jira)

  • Missile Defense Agency program experience

  • System of Systems Integration experience

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance and identify root cause and recommend solutions

  • Knowledge of Agile development process

  • Utilization of Digital Engineering environment

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to work independently, and possess the poise and flexibility required to work in a highly dynamic environment

Typical Education/Experience:

Mid-Level (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Summary Pay Plan Mid-Level: $97,750 - $141,450

Summary Pay Plan Senior Level: $119,850 - $173,650
