Job Description:
DPP is seeking a Tool Engineer for an opportunity with our client in the Space & Defense Manufacturing industry.
 
Work location: Onsite in El Segunda, CA
Schedule: 9x80 A
Duration: 6 months
Term: W2 position
Work authorization: Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance and special program access
 
Position summary:
  • The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaborating with internal and external customers.
  • In this role you will design industrial tools, dies, gauges, drill & assembly jigs, fixtures, machine attachments and equipment, required for production or experimental use, considering such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements.
  • This role works closely with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure tooling meets quality, cost, schedule, and safety requirements.
  • The candidate shall have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation. 
Key responsibilities:
  • Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs
  • Design tooling and equipment, including engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans
  • Work closely with Tool Designers to create and finalize drawings
  • Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and function
  • Manage tooling projects, including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabrication
  • Interface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are met
  • Support vendors during fabrication and inspect fabricated tooling for drawing compliance
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, and process engineering to support program quality, delivery, and cost objectives
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving 
Basic qualifications:
  • Experience with industry standard design tools including NX CAD, CATIA
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication processes & machine shop practices
  • Experience with drawing release criteria and related documents for completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy; correctness of materials and processes; conformity to design/drafting standards (e.g. GD&T), design specifications, and practicability; economy of fabrication, assembly, and installation.
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018)
  • Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbols
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects, and resources
  • Technical attention to detail
  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance & special program access 
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and support equipment
  • Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part production
  • Experience participating in developments project, establishing tooling SOW & design estimates
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Experience with stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years
