GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position performs all aspects of the procurement of tooling, fixtures, and related services required to support the manufacture of titanium castings done in-plant and/or through sub-contractors. Position works under the support of the Development Engineering Manager and the Purchasing Manager to develop the necessary structure and tools to manage a quality, cost-effective, performance oriented supplier base.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Generate wax injection die dimensional requirements, wax injection die concept review and approval, wax injection die proving (dimensional and functional)
- Design and order wax nesting boards
- Quote and procure tooling and fixtures as needed for part production.
- Interface with PCC Schlosser Engineering and vendor to ensure the timely procurement of cost effective tooling, fixtures and services.
- Develop and maintain the necessary tools to track and measure supplier performance.
- Develop and initiate purchasing projects to reduce costs, improve lead times and improve the quality of goods and services.
- Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic math/statistics and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
- Technical knowledge of front-end processes, machining, saw injection dies, aerospace blueprints and customer specifications requirements.
- Knowledge of procurement policies and procedures; knowledge of MRP systems.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and determine corrective actions for tooling/fixturing related issues.
- Knowledge of investment casting process and knowledge of wax/metal shrink.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to distill technical requirements from customer specs, PO’s, and Drawings and determine if the process is capable.
- Ability to manage Change Order Requests from quotation through implementation
- Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize tasks, manage process or product projects, and work effectively with other departments and outside vendors.
- Knowledge of SPC/6-sigma and ability to visualize 3 dimensionally
- Technical knowledge of gating, process capabilities, and fixturing.
- Ability to work with limited supervision with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated computer skills including Windows, MS Word and Excel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Manufacturing Technology or related discipline with minimum of 3 years experience in purchasing or project management; and minimum of 1 year experience working in production planning or a machining organization. Experience working in wax injection die development/manufacturing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate, write, type and operate office equipment. Ability to exert over thirty-five pounds of force to move objects. Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals and varying temperatures.
