Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a highly motivated and energetic first-line Vehicle Management System (VMS) Engineering Manager to join the Flight Systems Capability and Phantom Works located in Hazelwood, MO. This position will lead the VMS Hardware Team on a Phantom Works program as well as support the Flight Systems Capability.  The VMS Hardware Engineering Manager leads a team of engineers and suppliers to develop, integrate, test, and certify a vehicle management system.  This role is contingent on a future contract award and will report to the BDS Flight Engineering VMS Senior Manager.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and motivate employees performing engineering and technical activities to develop, test, and certify a vehicle management system.
  • Create, coordinate, execute, and status plans and schedules for hardware development, analysis, and integration testing.
  • Partner with supply chain in development of requests for information, requests for proposal, and establishing contracts.
  • Partner with supply chain to lead suppliers through all phases of development and delivery of hardware, configuration items, and data items.
  • Ensure supplier statement of work and contract data items support certification.
  • Support review of supplier data items and program certification processes.
  • Track lab and vehicle hardware assets.
  • Develop and track earned value management baselines.
  • Develop estimates and proposals.
  • Use the Boeing program management best practices to organize and drive execution of the hardware team work scope.
  • Maintain staffing forecasts, coordinate personnel movements, and hire as necessary.
  • Lead employee development and engagement to support career growth, retention objectives, recognition, and empowerment.
  • Develop and maintain relationship and partnership with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. 

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering role.
  • 3+ years of experience leading teams.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in electrical or computer engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Experience with Vehicle Management Systems development.
  • Experience with development, integration, or test with aviation electronics.
  • Experience with technical supplier management.
  • Experience with airworthiness certification processes.
  • Experience developing and tracking budgets and schedules.
  • Experience with earned value management system.
  • Mentoring or technical lead engineer experience.
  • Experience in team building and motivating and engaging team members.
  • Skilled in advising and influencing employees to meet schedules and resolve problems.
