Role Summary

Horizon Air is seeking a Financial Analyst (I or II depending on experience) to join the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team. This team is a trusted partner for senior leadership; driving change and moving the business forward in a highly visible role with exposure to senior company leadership (including the C-Suite). This position supports strategic and complex financial planning and analysis activities for Horizon Air. As a member of our FP&A team, you will find talented individuals who display Horizon Heart, demand high performance, and deliver results to our internal customers. The ideal candidate is optimistic, open minded and curious, comfortable in a fast paced, changing environment, and understands the airline business is won and lost on the margins. Therefore, we are constantly looking for opportunities for the company to reduce costs, improve productivity, and drive growth. Using and implementing new data analytics tools will also be a key focus area.

As a member of the FP&A team, this Analyst works with a fast-paced, high-exposure team whose responsibilities include financial analysis, key performance indicator modeling, competitive analysis and industry benchmarking, and what-if scenarios. The FP&A team develops, manages, and maintains models to support company activities. The team coordinates monthly close processes for various divisions where needed, including accruals, PO system management, invoice review and research, and data entry into relevant support databases/models. The team assists and guides cost center managers with individual problems of planning, cost control, budget preparation, variance research and business case preparation. You must be able to lead and drive the completion of finance projects and initiatives of varying scopes and sizes.

Level Overview

  • Financial Analyst I - Under general supervision, will support and analyze financial data and make recommendations for moderately complex business problems and provide input into solutions.

  • Financial Analyst II - Will use solid understanding of financial fundamentals to analyze data, make recommendations for approach to solutions and make recommendations for solutions to complex business problems.

Key Duties

Level of oversight and responsibility varies depending on level of analyst. Over the Financial Analyst position:

  • Support the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting process.

    • Ensure rigorous financial discipline is tied to achieving key company objectives.

    • Generate productivity/financial metrics and drive ownership across the organization.

    • Manage capital budgeting and forecasting for Horizon divisions.

  • Drive the production of executive dashboards and variance reports for operating budgets.

    • Review monthly financial reports with each of the division and senior Finance leaders to identify key variances, trends, and potential issues that may materially impact financial performance.

    • Take the lead in partnership with division leaders to come up with alternative action plans to course-correct any variances.

  • Collaborate with Director FP&A and the rest of the FP&A team to develop and maintain financial and productivity reporting/tracking regarding strategic initiatives and overall company objectives to drive better business understanding/insights, performance oversight, and accountability.

  • Drive the rollout and increased usage of Tableau and other planning/analytical tools to automate manual processes and provide actionable financial data and metrics to leaders across the company.

  • Analyze divisional expenses.

    • Drive ownership of cost performance across the division including identifying opportunities for improvement and leading the development of actions plans to achieve desired cost savings and/or productivity improvement.

    • Assist FP&A and operating division leadership in communicating industry, company and divisional financial performance/key drivers throughout division.

    • Oversee monthly accounting/financial close and forecast process and assist with variance analysis.

    • Educate cost center managers on key financial/accounting tools, rules, and expectations and hold them accountable for submission of timely, accurate, monthly accruals and knowing their financial results.

    • Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and business case development and provide regular strategic and tactical advice/feedback to division leadership.

  • Keep current on industry developments and competitor performance with respect to productivity and front-line labor compensation.

  • Engage cross-divisionally with division leaders, FP&A, and AAG Finance/Accounting teams to know and understand mutual dependencies/requirements and to ensure that division financial priorities and objectives support the overall company goals and objectives.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Financial Analyst I

Required

  • Working knowledge of accounting/finance fundamentals.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and databases in general, including experience with a variety of Excels math functions and pivot tables.

  • Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree with a preferred focus in business, finance, economics, math, accounting, or related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Financial Analyst II

Required

  • 2 years of experience in finance, accounting, investment banking or related area.

  • Working knowledge of accounting/finance fundamentals.

  • Self-starter with the ability to set and balance priorities, work independently and take ownership.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and databases in general, including experience with a variety of Excels math functions and pivot tables.

  • Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree with a preferred focus in business, finance, economics, math, accounting, or related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • 2+ years of financial planning & analysis experience.

  • 2+ years of experience working in the airline industry or a related field.

  • Experience working with Tableau or related query tools, Hyperion, database creation and maintenance, and PeopleSoft financials.

  • Demonstrated understanding of financial analysis as it relates to airline metrics and productivity strongly preferred.

  • Experience comfortably working well at all levels of the organization, from senior executives to frontline contributors.

  • Master’s degree, with focus in business administration, finance, economics, or statistics.

  • CPA certification.

Salary Range

$67,724.8-$103,400 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors,includingand not limited to relevant experience/level, level of the role and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
