An Aircraft Cabinet Builder fabricates, assembles, and installs high-quality, lightweight furniture (cabinets, bulkheads, galleys) for aircraft interiors based on engineering blueprints. They work with wood, veneers, laminates, and composite materials, using specialized tools to ensure strict compliance with aviation safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabrication & Assembly: Constructs custom cabinets, shelves, tables, and wooden fixtures using woodworking machinery and hand tools.
- Installation: Fits, trims, and installs cabinets and hardware (hinges, latches) in aircraft, ensuring proper fit.
- Material Application: Applies veneers, laminates, and cap strips to surfaces.
- Repair & Refurbishment: Repairs, modifies, or replaces damaged or worn cabinetry, including stripping old laminates.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Reads and interprets technical drawings and engineering specifications.
- Quality & Safety: Complies with 5S, safety, and housekeeping policies while documenting work in tracking systems.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Generally requires 3–5+ years of experience in high-end cabinetry, carpentry, or aircraft furniture manufacturing.
- Tools: Proficiency with stationary and handheld power tools (table saws, routers, sanders).
- Technical Skills: Ability to work with honeycomb panels, veneers, and composites.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Attention to Detail: High precision to meet strict aerospace cosmetic and structural standards.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in confined spaces, bend, and lift.
