What you can expect as an Interior Finish Technician at West Star:
As an Interior Finish technician, you will be responsible for interior finish processes, including wood finishes of assigned aircraft, varying amounts of gloss and satin applications, and sanding of hardwood as needed to apply finish. Development and completion of aircraft interior cabinet finishes are the primary functions. Job duties will vary by type and scope, as designated by the Finish Team Leader.
You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:
- Assist with paint and techniques for major modification projects
- Identify colors and color matches as needed
- Basic knowledge of stains, lacquers, clear coats, etc.
- Basic knowledge of chemicals (thinners, catalysts, cleaners, etc.) And safety procedures.
- Basic knowledge of paints and spraying equipment
- Knowledge of dry sanding and wet sanding, etc.
- Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling
- Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases
- Cleanliness of shop and surroundings
- Work independently when required
- Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
What you’ll need to bring with you:
Your Education:
A High school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required
Your Experience :
Tech I
0-2 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field.
These technicians have very limited to no knowledge of the position.
This level requires close supervision and constant check-ins on work performance.
Tech II
2 -4 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field.
Considerable knowledge of the job with a broad understanding of detailed aspects.
Will need general supervision and instructions.
Tech III
4-6 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field.
Full knowledge of the job and complete understanding of detailed aspects.
Limited supervision is required.
No instruction needed and can act as a trainer or mentor to other technicians.
Master Tech
6+ years’ experience in aviation interiors.
Exclusive knowledge in all areas of the job.
This technician is a subject matter expert with a wide and comprehensive knowledge of the job.
Your Initiative:
We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common.
Your Sense of Responsibility:
Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.
Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.
You must have reliable transportation to get to work each day.
Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
Maintain customer-oriented work habits.
Assist in major modification work as needed.
Other particulars:
Physical Requirements
Lift 50 lbs.
Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands with emphasis on grasping, feeling and finger dexterity.
Standing for long periods of time.
Able to climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas.
Pass a respirator fit test.
Mental Requirements
Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, Hazmat, etc.
Work with others in a professional manner.
Read and comprehend various documents.
Plan and organize procedures and operations.
Supervision
Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Interior Management.
May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.
Work with minimal supervision when required.
Working Conditions
The majority of work will be performed in a hangar or shop environment.
Work outside on the ramp on occasion.
Varied positions in and around the aircraft.
Equipment Used
Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc.
Spray booth and all related equipment.
Computer, copy machine etc.

Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package.
