Job Summary

  • Sew aircraft soft goods with knowledge and skills of aircraft upholstery.
  • Utilize drawings, blueprints, design drawings, and/or spec control prints following Quality standards.
  • Soft goods include crew seats, passenger seats, divans, curtains, and other assorted interior soft goods.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong desire to learn and attention to detail.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience or completion of the STEP Program in Upholstery Sewing or related field.
  • Must not be allergic to chemicals, solvents, paints, adhesives, natural or manmade materials, fabrics, or feathers.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to work in confined spaces and unusual positions.
  • Able to lift and transport up to 40 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Visual capacity and muscular dexterity to work on fine detail, high-cost products with a minimum of errors and rework.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • Able to stock and remove materials from bins above storage level according to OSHA standards.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Aircraft upholstery fabrication experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems when needed.
  • Manufacturing, vocational, technical school training, and/or related college credits.
  • Computer and/or software training or experience.
  • Able to work from documentation such as MES, FPS, WI, blueprints, drawings, F-standards, preparation packages, etc.
  • Courses in state or federal vocational technical upholstery programs.
  • 3D model experience.

Working Conditions

  • Factory/manufacturing environment subject to high noise levels, adhesive or chemical odors, dust, and normal climate control.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities (Essential Functions) As an Upholstery Sewing Technician, you will:

  • Perform daily maintenance of sewing equipment.
  • Perform sewing operations in accordance with "F standards.
  • Fabricate seat covers and other aircraft parts using quality standards, including the ability to sew straight, French, or lock stitch, and serge (as appropriate to skill level).
  • Comply with sewing instruction and customer specification / IFS description.
  • Set up and operate equipment.
  • Sew straps, baggage nets.
  • Perform at the expected standards of safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
  • Work within customer specifications, engineering data, industrial definition using pattern data, company standards, and work instructions.
  • Select correct material from specification, CAM orders, and record lot numbers.
  • Be mentored by an experienced technician or team lead.
  • Operate and adjust industrial single needle and double stitch machines.
  • Interpret pattern blueprints, completion drawings, company standards, work instructions, and 3D model information.
  • Perform proper maintenance practices in accordance with FPS, "F standards, and Quality standards, such as proper glue application, adhesive bonding, and hardware.
  • Correctly handle and use all required tools specific to the current job assignment.
  • Correctly handle and use all required chemicals and adhesives related to the current job assignment, including general knowledge and ability on retrieving data from the MSDS safety books.
  • Adopt Continuous Improvement practices.
