The Composite Technician manufactures composite parts and structures using filament winding equipment and related machinery. This role focuses on modifying glass, carbon, and other fibers to create high-quality composite overwrapped pressure vessels and components that meet precise project and process specifications.
Shift
- Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with typical work weeks around 50 hours and occasional Saturdays as needed to meet production demands.
Responsibilities
- Operate filament winding equipment to manufacture composite parts and structures according to standard procedures, process specifications, and work instructions.
- Develop a hands-on working knowledge of winding machines, resin mixing equipment, hoists, extractors, curing ovens, and all ancillary equipment required in the winding process.
- Set up production machinery, including preparing winding machines and related equipment for operation.
- Tear down and clean production machinery after use, ensuring equipment is ready for the next production run.
- Monitor and validate the progress of machine operations, making adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Feed raw materials or parts into semi-automated machines in accordance with production requirements.
- Gather parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials needed to complete each production process or work order.
- Position parts and subassemblies accurately by using templates or reading and interpreting measurements.
- Assemble parts to match product specifications, using appropriate hand tools and power tools.
- Perform data entry related to production activities, such as recording measurements, counts, and process parameters.
- Follow all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures in a production/manufacturing environment.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work area throughout the production process.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of manufacturing experience preferred, with a background in production or assembly.
- Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English.
- Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools.
- Experience in composites or textiles manufacturing environments.
- Ability to accurately use measuring devices such as pi-tape, calipers, and air pressure gauges.
- Ability to operate power tools including hand saws, drill guns, and band saws.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with manufacturing equipment.
- Experience using hand tools in an assembly or production setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical degree or technical training is a plus.
- Experience with Fanuc controls is a plus.
- Previous experience in composite manufacturing or working with glass, carbon, or similar fibers is beneficial.
- Familiarity with filament winding processes and resin mixing equipment is advantageous.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with semi-automated machinery.

Work Environment
This role is based in a production and manufacturing environment focused on the fabrication of composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs) used in advanced aerospace applications. The facility operates high-speed machinery, filament winding equipment, resin mixing systems, hoists, extractors, and curing ovens, as well as semi-automated machines and a variety of hand and power tools. The environment is hands-on, mechanically oriented, and process-driven, with an emphasis on safety, precision, and adherence to standardized procedures.
