Core Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup: Prepare and set up tool and cutter grinding machines, including selecting the appropriate grinding wheels, fixtures, and tool holders.
  • Tool Inspection: Inspect cutting tools for wear, damage, or other defects to determine the extent of regrinding required.
  • Grinding Operations: Perform precision grinding operations to recondition cutting tools, ensuring they meet specified dimensions, angles, and surface finishes.
  • Grinding Parameters: Adjust machine settings, such as feed rates, wheel speeds, and depth of cut, to achieve desired tool geometry and sharpness.
  • Quality Control: Verify the quality and accuracy of reconditioned tools using measurement instruments like micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of tool regrinding processes, including specifications, tool history, and maintenance logs.
  • Tool Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on grinding machines and sharpening equipment to ensure their proper functioning.
  • Tool Selection: Advise on the selection of appropriate cutting tools for specific machining tasks based on knowledge of tool materials, geometries, and applications.
  • Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with production and machining teams to ensure that reconditioned tools are readily available and meet the required standards.

Qualifications:

  • Vocational training or apprenticeship in machining or tool and cutter grinding.
  • Strong knowledge of cutting tool materials, geometries, and application.
  • Familiar with CNC machines and experience in CNC milling/grinding/lathe/etc.
  • Proficiency in operating tool and cutter grinding machines.
  • Understanding of machine tool setup and adjustment.
  • Attention to detail and precision in tool grinding and inspection.
  • Familiarity with measurement instruments and quality control processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and practices in a machining environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
