Key Responsibilities:

Material Coordinators/Controllers are responsible for providing logistical parts support for grounded aircraft throughout the United System. The Material Coordinator/Controller supports 24/7 Logistical Operations to ensure timely processing of AOG material and tooling requests.

  • Work closely with the Maintenance Control Supervisor to identify AOG parts requirements and the best method of obtaining parts using company inventories
  • Coordinates with Engineering, Internal/External Shops, Inventory Planning and Boeing and Airbus-Technical Support to obtain correct part(s) needed for maintenance requirements
  • Purchase aircraft parts from OEMs (Original equipment manufacturers), Boeing/Airbus, other airlines and aircraft parts brokers at the best overall cost to the company to support unplanned events
  • Initiates purchase orders and ensures receipt, payment and finalization
  • Create metrics to measure and report departmental activity and service levels
  • Support GeM Missions
  • Coordinates worldwide engine movement and tracking
  • Provide AOG Tooling movement and tracking
  • Borrowing of aircraft parts from other airlines
  • Loan and accommodation sales of company assets to other airlines
  • Air charter logistics activities to support OOS aircraft, materials/mechanics
  • Responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable working environment through timely and effective communication, with emphasis on Dignity and Respect
  • Schedules borrowed part removals within first 24 hours of borrow inception, and works closely with the line stations to ensure staff availability
  • Coordinates with Engineering, Inventory Planning and Boeing/Airbus Technical Support to find the correct part(s) needed for borrow removal and resolves the best method of retrieving parts
  • Initializes and deletes serial numbers in the SCEPTRE data base (IMS) as necessary (Special access required from Q.C.)
  • Works closely with the Repair and Modification Group / Internal Repair Shops to expedite parts required to effect the removal of costly borrowed parts
  • Performs all the duties of the AOG job function as required
  • Advises the coordination of engine transportation and critical parts via United, other airlines or vendors
  • Develops and maintains strong airline and supplier relationships
  • Enhance Loan revenue generation for United, while ensuring UAL’s Service Level targets are maintained throughout the Loans process
  • Discover fastest and most efficient means of transportation
  • Coordinates complicated off-line parts transfers between other airlines, suppliers and courier service
  • Communicates with the owners and representatives of charter aircraft services to arrange charter flights, negotiates cost of charters
  • Identifies packaging requirements and resolves appropriate aircraft type needed to handle
  • Set up part numbers in SCEPTRE database in off hours
  • A Material Coordinator is required to use and understand various Corporate and Government supervised manuals
  • These include the General Maintenance Manual, the Illustrated Parts Catalog (I.P.C.), the IATA Dangerous Goods Manual, various Service Bulletins, and different Engineering Change Request Authorizations (E.C.R.A.)
  • Develop and maintain individual Go Forward Goal performance
  • Conduct self audits, ensuring compliance with detailed policies and procedures
  • Reduced aircraft out of service time for parts
  • Velocity of recovery and response quality for out of service aircraft/AOG/AOM situations
  • Meet/Exceed Revenue performance (loans)
  • Meet Borrows removal schedule target and meet or exceed borrow cost charges
  • Improved SL through airline and supplier alliances
  • Accurate and timely invoice management
  • Reduced logistics network costs
  • Must maintain daily liaise with Line Maintenance operational groups – i.e., Maintenance Control, Line Maintenance, Engineering, Warehousing, Internal & OSV shops, OPS Director, Quality Control, Tooling, etc.

  • Associate/Technical or Equivalent Work Experience may substitute
  • Minimum 5 years job experience in airline, logistics or related field
  • Knowledgeable in Logistics Control and Airline Operations
  • Strong Analytical and Communication Skills
  • 12 hours shift schedule
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
