Location Profile:

Progressive was founded and incorporated in 1971 in Arlington, Texas. Heroux-Devtek Inc. purchased Progressive in 2004 who helped to expand the site which has doubled its manufacturing footprint and more than doubled sales and employee base. In August 2012, Precision Castparts Corp. (PCC) acquired Progressive. In January 2022 Progressive merged with ADI, Aerospace Dynamics Inc. and now ADI Progressive is one of the largest footprints within the Aerostructures Division of PCC.

Predominantly, a provider for large, highly complex machined parts, kits and assemblies for OEMs and large Tier One providers for both military and commercial market segments. Progressive is a 140,000 square foot facility.

Position Summary:

Building upon level 1, with minimal assistance, the Machinist – Level 2 operates 2-5 axis CNC machine cells as well as standalong machines, which requires basic machine setup including preparing and setting up fixtures and cutting tools, as well as loading and adjusting CNC programs and offsets. The Machinist – Level 2 competencies include the ability to use more advanced quality inspection tools and techniques such as height and air gauges and bench inspection. The Machinist – Level 2 will have basic competencies in print reading and common CNC G and M codes. Typically 2-4 years of experience.

Reporting Relationships:

The Machinist – Level 2 will report to the Production Supervisor.

    • Validate Machine Levels (Coolant, Oil, Waylube)

  • Equipment Setup-Technique
    • Physical Machine Setup (Loading Fixture, Tools & Program)
    • Technical Machine Setup (Setting Work & Tool Offsets)
  • Machine Operation
    • Validate Shifts, Shim Amounts, and Material Data
    • Machine Control (Cycle Start / Stop, Single Block, etc.)
    • Machine Safety (LOTO, etc.)
  • Machinist Related Cross Training
    • Operate a FANUC Controller for a 5-Axis Gantry
    • Operate 4-Axis & 5-Axis Vertical Mills
    • Operate 5-Axis Horizontal Mills
  • Part Protection
    • Proper Part Handling (Loading, Unloading, and Transportation)
    • Chip Clearing
    • Maintain Tool Life of Tool Kits
  • Productivity & Quality
    • Basic Print Reading
    • Meets Production Goals
    • Collect Warpage & Shim Data as required in Job Books
    • In Process Inspection (Visual Inspection, First Part Buy Off)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency of Machinist – Level 1 competencies
  • Basic shop math
  • Read basic technical documentation and drawings after receiving training.
  • Familiarity with hand measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, air gauges, bore gauges, etc.
  • Ability to read and verify manufacturing order documentation.
  • Read and understand written work.
  • Ability to learn and cross-train as needed.
  • Punctuality

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Machinist Certification strongly preferred
  • 2-4 years of experience

Physical Demands & Working Condition

  • May be required to move items up to 35 pounds.
  • Daily duties may require sitting, standing, bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, operating, and manipulating hand tools.
  • Daily duties may require extended duration of walking.
  • Exposed to a Manufacturing setting with heavy machinery.
