Purpose

The Toolroom Attendant is responsible for managing the issuance, tracking, maintenance, and organization of tools and equipment used in aircraft maintenance, modification, and production activities. This role ensures tools are available, properly maintained, calibrated when required, and accounted for in accordance with company procedures and aviation regulatory requirements. The Toolroom Attendant supports operational efficiency, tool accountability, and compliance with safety and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) control standards.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Issue and receive tools, equipment, and consumables to mechanics and technicians while maintaining accurate tracking records.
  • Maintain tool inventory and ensure proper identification, storage, and organization of all tools and equipment.
  • Inspect returned tools for damage, wear, or calibration requirements and coordinate repairs or replacements as necessary.
  • Track calibrated tools and coordinate with approved vendors or internal processes to maintain calibration compliance.
  • Maintain tool control logs and electronic tracking systems to ensure accountability and traceability.
  • Monitor inventory levels of frequently used tools and shop supplies and coordinate reordering as required.
  • Ensure compliance with tool control and FOD prevention procedures in accordance with company policies and aviation regulations.
  • Assist mechanics and technicians in locating specialized tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe toolroom environment.
  • Support periodic tool audits and inventory checks to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and maintenance teams regarding tool procurement, repairs, and replacements.
  • Assist with tool kit preparation for specific projects, work packages, or aircraft programs.

 

Minimum Qualifications or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–4 years of experience in a toolroom, warehouse, maintenance support, or inventory control role.
  • Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and shop practices used in mechanical or aviation environments.
  • Experience maintaining inventory records or working with inventory tracking systems.

 

Preferred Qualifications or Experience

  • Experience working in an aviation, aerospace, manufacturing, or maintenance environment.
  • Familiarity with FAA Part 145 Repair Station procedures and tool control requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems or electronic inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of calibration requirements for precision tools.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • May assist in coordinating toolroom activities and supporting new personnel as needed.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Attributes

  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
  • High attention to detail and accountability for tool tracking.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills to support technicians and mechanics.
  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining coordination with production teams.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a toolroom, hangar, and shop environment within an aviation maintenance facility.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting tools and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to noise, industrial equipment, and varying temperature conditions common to aircraft maintenance facilities.
  • Must follow all safety procedures, tool control policies, and FOD prevention requirements.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) may be necessary depending on work location.
