Job Title: Line Service Technician
Job Description
The Line Service Technician provides essential ground support services to aircraft and customers at Kinston Regional Airport in a positive, professional, and safety-focused manner. You perform all facets of fixed-base operator (FBO) ground handling operations, including receiving and dispatching aircraft, fueling, towing, baggage and cargo handling, and airfield and ramp inspections. You ensure safe and efficient operations while strictly adhering to aviation regulations, company procedures, and established safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Receive and dispatch aircraft in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.
- Refuel aircraft in accordance with aviation fuel handling procedures and safety regulations.
- Marshal aircraft on ramps, providing clear and accurate hand signals to pilots.
- Operate tugs, fuel trucks, and other ground support equipment (GSE) to move aircraft and support flight operations.
- Tow aircraft to and from hangars, ramps, and other designated areas while following all towing safety guidelines.
- Handle baggage and cargo, including loading, unloading, and proper staging to support on-time departures and arrivals.
- Perform basic aircraft servicing, such as checking oil, lavatory services, and other routine ground support tasks as directed.
- Support pilots and flight operations by responding promptly to service requests and providing courteous, customer-focused assistance on the flight line.
- Conduct daily airfield safety inspections using a vehicle and handheld radio to manually inspect runways, taxiways, and ramp areas for hazards such as cracks, spalls, holes, foreign object debris (FOD), vegetation growth, ruts or depressions, rodent or other animal damage, and wildlife presence.
- Verify that runway edge lights, taxiway lights, runway threshold lights, airport beacons, and windsock lights are operable and report any deficiencies.
- Conduct FBO facility and property inspections to ensure the facility is operational, clean, and free of damage.
- Perform daily janitorial services within the FBO, including vacuuming, dusting, and restroom cleaning, to maintain a professional and welcoming environment.
- Inspect surrounding property, perimeter fencing, and gates to ensure they are damage-free, secure, and compliant with safety and security standards.
- Check parking lot lights and report or address any outages to maintain safe access and visibility.
- Monitor and help maintain landscaping around the facility to ensure a neat and well-kept appearance.
- Inspect hangars on a monthly basis to identify any maintenance, safety, or security issues and report findings promptly.
- Initiate emergency response procedures when necessary, including notifying the appropriate airport authority of any aircraft or automobile accidents or incidents and following established emergency protocols.
- Communicate clearly and effectively via handheld radio and other communication tools to coordinate ramp, fueling, towing, and inspection activities.
- Adhere to all aviation regulations, company policies, and safety procedures while promoting a culture of safety and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe ground operations across the airport.
Essential Skills
- Experience in aviation ground support, FBO operations, or related line service technician duties such as refueling aircraft, marshalling, towing, and baggage handling.
- Ability to operate tugs, fuel trucks, and a variety of ground support equipment safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of basic aircraft servicing procedures and safe fuel handling practices.
- Familiarity with airfield, ramp, and facility inspection processes, including identification of hazards such as FOD, surface damage, and wildlife presence.
- Ability to use handheld radios and follow standard radio communication protocols on the airfield.
- Strong awareness of aviation safety regulations and commitment to following established safety procedures.
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting baggage and cargo, working on ramps, and operating equipment for extended periods.
- Attention to detail when conducting inspections, documenting issues, and ensuring equipment and facilities remain operational.
- Effective communication skills to interact with pilots, flight crews, coworkers, and other airport personnel in a professional manner.
- Willingness and ability to work varying shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and nights, as required by flight and airport operations.

Work Environment
You work at a small but growing regional airport with several office buildings and multiple maintenance hangars, many of which are brand new and others currently under construction. The environment combines active ramps, hangars, and FBO facilities, offering exposure to a wide range of business jet operations. You operate fuel trucks, tugs, and other ground support equipment on the airfield and perform inspections across runways, taxiways, ramps, and facilities. The role involves both indoor work within the FBO and hangars and outdoor work on the ramp in varying weather conditions. Shifts typically range from 8 to 10 hours and follow a structured schedule. Monday through Thursday, you work 4/10 schedules with first shift from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, second shift from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and third shift from 9:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Friday through Sunday, weekend shifts operate on 3/12 schedules, with day shift from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM and night shift from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM. The setting is safety-oriented, fast-paced, and team-focused, with clear procedures and a strong emphasis on reliable operations and professional presentation.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
