Piston Aviation is a high-energy, safety-first flight school and maintenance facility based in St. Louis. We train under Part 61 and are actively moving toward Part 141 certification. We’re hiring a Lead A&P Mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA) to oversee our growing fleet of 10+ aircraft. This is more than just a hands-on role — we’re looking for someone to lead, mentor, and help shape the future of our maintenance program.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and sign off on 100-hour, annual, and progressive inspections (IA required)
- Oversee all maintenance tasks and documentation for our training fleet
- Ensure aircraft compliance with FAA regulations and airworthiness directives
- Help prepare our fleet for Part 141 operations
- Maintain accurate and organized maintenance records (digital and paper)
- Communicate status updates to leadership and flight operations teams
- Support and mentor junior A&Ps and apprentices as the department grows
Requirements:
- FAA A&P License with current Inspection Authorization
- Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience in general aviation
- Solid understanding of FAA standards for Part 61 and 141 flight schools
- Comfortable with Lycoming, Continental, and Rotax engines
- Reliable, proactive, and safety-obsessed
- Leadership experience or management mindset is a big plus
Bonus Points:
- Experience maintaining Light Sport Aircraft (LSA)
- Familiarity with aircraft scheduling and fleet management software
