Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Aircraft Technician to oversee and lead a team of technicians in maintaining, repairing, and inspecting aircraft to ensure safe and efficient operation. The Lead Aircraft Technician will be responsible for performing hands-on maintenance tasks, guiding junior technicians, and ensuring that all work complies with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. This position requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and technicians while working under tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and Supervise Aircraft Maintenance: Supervise a team of aircraft technicians, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Perform Routine and Unscheduled Maintenance: Lead and perform scheduled (preventive) and unscheduled (emergency) maintenance on aircraft, including engine checks, avionics, landing gear, flight controls, hydraulic systems, and more.
- Troubleshoot and Repair Aircraft Systems: Diagnose and troubleshoot complex aircraft systems and components to identify faults and ensure timely and accurate repairs.
- Ensure Compliance with Regulations: Ensure all work complies with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations, industry standards, and company policies regarding maintenance, safety, and airworthiness.
- Inspection and Certification: Conduct thorough inspections of aircraft to identify wear and tear, potential issues, and required repairs. Certify that maintenance tasks are completed and aircraft are fit for flight.
- Customer-Focused Attitude – Committed to delivering a positive customer experience by addressing concerns promptly and respectfully.
- Mentor and Train Technicians: Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to junior technicians and assist with their professional development. Oversee the quality of their work and offer guidance as needed.
- Maintain Maintenance Logs: Ensure that accurate maintenance logs, records, and reports are maintained, documenting all repairs, inspections, and modifications completed on the aircraft.
- Coordinate with Other Departments: Work closely with flight operations, safety teams, and other departments to ensure that aircraft are ready for service, with a focus on minimizing downtime and ensuring operational efficiency.
- Inventory Management: Oversee the maintenance of parts and supplies inventory, ensuring that necessary components are available for timely repairs and maintenance.
- Ensure Safety Protocols: Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed following safety protocols and that work areas remain organized and free from hazards.
- Manage Workflow: Coordinate maintenance schedules, plan workflows, and manage technician assignments to meet deadlines, aircraft availability, and operational needs.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify areas for improvement in maintenance processes, equipment, or practices and suggest solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate’s degree in Aircraft Maintenance, Aviation Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification: FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification is required. IA certification is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of aircraft systems, including mechanical, electrical, avionics, and hydraulic systems.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of technicians, ensuring high-quality work and strong collaboration.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of FAA regulations, airworthiness standards, and safety practices in aircraft maintenance.
- Documentation Skills: Strong attention to detail for maintaining accurate records, logs, and reports.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members, management, and other departments.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting and moving parts, working in confined spaces, and handling tools and equipment.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with specific aircraft models (e.g., King Air, Hawker, Falcon, Lear, Citation).
- Knowledge of modern avionics systems and equipment.
- Experience with heavy maintenance, engine overhauls, or structural repairs.
- Familiarity with maintenance tracking software or systems (e.g., CAMP, Traxxall, etc.).
Working Conditions
- Full-time position, with a combination of day shifts and on-call availability for emergencies or time-sensitive repairs.
- Occasional weekend, evening, or holiday work may be required based on operational needs.
- Work is performed in hangar and on-aircraft environments, both indoors and outdoors, which may expose technicians to varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work under pressure, managing time-sensitive repairs and maintenance tasks, ensuring aircraft readiness for scheduled flights.
