Job Description:

Job Title: A&P Mechanic – General Aviation Maintenance Lead

Job Description

This role offers an experienced A&P Mechanic the opportunity to step into a key position within a well-established general aviation maintenance operation. You will perform hands-on airframe and powerplant maintenance while leading and mentoring a small team of mechanics in both engine and airframe departments. The position provides a clear path to grow into a maintenance leadership role, such as Chief Inspector or Director of Maintenance, while remaining actively involved in day-to-day maintenance work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on general aviation aircraft, with a focus on Cessna, Piper, and similar platforms.
  • Carry out both airframe and engine repairs in a general aviation environment, including work in a full reciprocating engine shop.
  • Conduct detailed inspections in accordance with regulatory requirements and company procedures, and support Inspection Authorization activities where qualified.
  • Lead, mentor, and teach a small team of mechanics in both airframe and engine departments, helping to develop their technical and professional skills.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities across airframe and engine teams to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality work standards.
  • Assist with maintenance and limited avionics work on specialized aircraft, including ICON amphibious aircraft, as needed.
  • Support maintenance for flight school aircraft while also performing engine and airframe maintenance for private customer aircraft.
  • Model a hands-on leadership style by continuing to perform mechanical work (“turn wrenches”) even as leadership responsibilities increase.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of maintenance processes, documentation, and quality standards as the operation grows.
  • Work toward taking on elevated leadership responsibilities, with potential progression into a Chief Inspector or Director of Maintenance role.

Essential Skills

  • Active Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license.
  • 8+ years of aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Experience in general aviation maintenance, including airframe and engine work on aircraft such as Cessna and Piper.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues on general aviation aircraft.
  • Inspection Authorization (IA), or actively working toward obtaining one.
  • Willingness and ability to work toward a leadership role (such as Chief Inspector or Director of Maintenance) while continuing to perform hands-on mechanic duties.
  • Strong mentoring and teaching skills to guide and develop other mechanics.
  • Proven leadership capabilities within a maintenance environment, including setting standards and leading by example.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of elevated responsibility in a lead, supervisor, or similar role in aircraft maintenance, preferred.
  • 5+ years of recent general aviation maintenance experience, preferred.
  • Experience working in a small maintenance team where flexibility and collaboration are essential.
  • Familiarity with maintenance on ICON amphibious aircraft or similar specialized platforms is a plus.
  • Comfort working in both engine and airframe maintenance departments within a general aviation operation.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members, flight school staff, and private aircraft owners.

Why Work Here?

You will join a small, close-knit maintenance team within a long-standing, family-oriented aviation business that values trust, craftsmanship, and long-term relationships. The operation offers a genuine small-town atmosphere away from the congestion of larger metropolitan areas, while still providing exposure to a diverse mix of aircraft and projects. You will have a real voice in shaping the maintenance team and processes, with clear opportunities to advance into leadership roles such as Chief Inspector or Director of Maintenance. This environment supports professional growth, hands-on learning, and the chance to leave a lasting impact on a well-established and respected aviation operation.

Work Environment

The maintenance operation is based at a family-run FBO with a strong small-town feel, located away from the busy Seattle metropolitan area. You will work in a general aviation maintenance facility that includes a full reciprocating engine shop and an airframe team, each currently consisting of a small group of mechanics. The company also operates an onsite flight school, and the maintenance organization services both the training fleet and a variety of privately owned aircraft. The shop is one of the few facilities that performs repairs on ICON amphibious aircraft, and some limited avionics work is performed on these aircraft as needed. The environment is collaborative and hands-on, with close interaction between maintenance staff, flight school operations, and private customers. Work attire is typical for an aircraft maintenance shop setting, focusing on practicality and safety while working in hangars and on the ramp.
