Aircraft Mechanic I (Avionics) UH-60
The Avionics Mechanic adjusts, repairs and/or replaces electrical wiring and aircraft system avionics. Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
Performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions.Apply required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation.Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturers’ manuals. Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, may service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, may specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and may specialize in engine repair. May be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records. Prioritizes workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.Receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.May be required to troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems to ensure aircraft remains in safe operating condition.Performs other duties as requested.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of aircraft avio
nics systems troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools.Working knowledge of avionics systems, including maintenance parameters, systems operation, limitations, and technical orders.
Experience & Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required; U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired.
Shall have a valid up-to-date A&P license; if no A&P license, must have (3) three years aviation maintenance experience, (2) two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and (2) two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS) is required. All experience must be within the (6) six most recent years is required.
MDS experience may be waived if you are undergoing, or have completed, the Contractor’s Government approved On-the-Job Training (OJT) program.
All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements
Two (2) or more year’s actual and recent experience in Avionics repair and modification preferred.
When assigned to Engine Specialized Repair Activity, must hold a valid (current) FAA Powerplant license. *if applicable
When assigned to operate Flexible Engine Diagnostic System (FEDS). Shall have Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Powerplant License. If no FAA Powerplant License, then shall have minimum five years documented as a Flexible Engine. *if applicable
Diagnostic System (FEDS) operator. *if applicable
DoD EPA Refrigerant Processing Certificate Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal) or Minimum Type II desirable. *if applicable
Valid drivers license required.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
Some domestic travel may be required.
