Job description
Leading aerospace and defense company is seeking Aircraft Mechanic II – Structural professionals to support the F/A-18 program in San Antonio, Texas. This position performs structural maintenance, repair, and modifications of aircraft systems of moderate complexity. Successful candidates will work with precision structural components, interpret technical drawings, and support heavy aircraft maintenance operations in a depot-level environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform close-tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation of components in critical support and fracture-critical structural areas.
- Drill precision holes and locate blind holes for installation of new structural components.
- Conduct structural sealing, shimming, painting, and corrosion-control processes according to repair standards.
- Interpret and apply engineering drawings, technical orders, process specifications, and retrofit instructions.
- Use tooling assemblies and fixtures to support depot-level repairs and structural modifications.
- Troubleshoot and repair aircraft mechanical components and perform component replacements as needed.
- Understand and apply aircraft sheet metal and structural modification methods.
- Work with aircraft tools including torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, drill motors, countersink tools, cable tensiometers, and sheet-metal brakes/shears.
- Initiate parts requests and discrepancy reports through computer-based maintenance systems.
- Comply with SA Site Tooling, Foreign Object Debris (FOD), and Hazardous Energy/LOTO procedures.
- Collaborate with other disciplines (Avionics, General Mechanics, Electronics) to meet cost and schedule requirements.
- Maintain required certifications, permits, and licenses for assigned work.
- Meet safety, quality, and production standards while performing maintenance tasks efficiently and accurately.
Physical Requirements
- Ascend/descend vertical ladders; work in confined spaces.
- Lift up to 35 lbs independently; occasional two-person lifts for items over 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching overhead, and working on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to crawl, squat, bend/stoop, sit, lie down, and operate foot controls for extended periods.
- Exposure to noise, elevated platforms, and occasional metal contact.
- Use of PPE for eyes, face, hands, ears, and arms.
- Ability to pass visual acuity and color-vision tests.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.
