Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Aircraft Mechanic III to serve as a team lead supporting CH-53E maintenance operations at MCAS Miramar. This role provides hands-on maintenance while supervising and guiding subordinate mechanics in both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance actions.
This is a senior-level position requiring advanced technical expertise, leadership capability, and strong organizational skills to ensure aircraft delivery schedules are met.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a team performing aircraft maintenance and inspections
- Perform, inspect, and supervise maintenance conducted by Mechanic I, II, and III personnel
- Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and engines of complex to extreme difficulty
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex airframe and powerplant discrepancies
- Interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and manufacturer data
- Provide technical guidance to structural/mechanical engineers and customers
- Ensure compliance with maintenance procedures and quality standards
- Make and review aircraft logbook and maintenance record entries
- Prioritize workload to meet aircraft delivery schedules
- Provide mentorship and technical oversight to junior mechanics
Required Knowledge & Experience:
- Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical troubleshooting and repair procedures
- Extensive sheet metal and structural modification/repair experience
- Ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems
Advanced familiarity with aircraft-specific tools including:
- Torque wrenches
- Dial indicators
- Micrometers
- Cable tensiometers
- Sheet metal brakes and shears
- Aircraft test equipment
- Strong leadership and supervisory experience
- Excellent organizational and workload management skills
- Proven ability to solve complex technical problems independently
Work Environment:
Flight line and hangar operations supporting operational USMC heavy-lift aircraft. This position requires leadership presence, technical authority, and the ability to perform hands-on maintenance.
